38-Year-Old Man Shot Dead By Police In Caroni; Firearm, Ammunition Seized

A man was killed and a firearm and a quantity of ammunition seized, following a Police-involved shooting incident which occurred in the Central Division on Saturday (22nd November, 2025).

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), reports indicate that Task Force Officers of the Central Division, Areas North and South, assisted by personnel of the Air Support and Canine Units, conducted an exercise in the Caroni district. During the exercise, Officers proceeded to the home of a 38-year-old suspect, where they allegedly found him inside the structure, armed with a gun.

The Officers allege the suspect pointed the gun in their direction and in keeping with the Use of Force policy, they discharged their service-issued weapons in the direction of the suspect. 

The suspect was wounded during the incident and taken to Hospital for emergency medical treatment, where he died. 

He has since been identified as Trevon Cumberbatch, of Kelly Village.

The TTPS said a Glock-17 pistol and magazine containing a quantity of ammunition were recovered from the scene. 

The operation was co-ordinated by Snr. Supt. Bhagwandeen, Supt. Glodon, ASP Hernandez and ASP Harrilal.

Investigations are continuing.
