Massive Explosion Rocks PDVSA Petrochemical Plant In Venezuela — Investigation Underway

A massive explosion rocked Venezuela’s Petrocedeño petrochemical plant, a State-run PDVSA facility in the Eastern State of Anzoátegui, near the Orinoco Belt — the country's primary oil-producing region — on Wednesday afternoon (19th November, 2025), followed by a large fire. There were no immediate reports of injuries, or what the cause of the explosion was.

Witnesses described hearing a loud explosion before flames erupted, creating a massive fireball and thick black smoke visible for miles. Emergency response teams from Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA), including specialized Fire Officers, quickly mobilized to contain the blaze, which was brought under control later that evening.

Reports state that approximately 210 workers were evacuated from the site, and at least forty-one (41) people in nearby communities reported respiratory issues due to smoke inhalation.

There is no information from any official or reliable source that this was a strike carried out by the United States in Venezuela, nor any involvement by the CIA. There is also no evidence to support social media claims that the plant was involved in narcotics-production.

PDVSA announced in a statement that it has established an investigation committee into the explosion (and subsequent fire) recorded at the atmospheric distillation plant of the Petrocedeño Upgrader, “to determine its causes and rule out an act of sabotage promoted by enemies of Venezuela.”
