Prison Officer Among 12 Arrested In Connection With Illegal Items Seized In Prisons

Over the past seventy-two (72) hours, twelve (12) persons, including a Prison Officer with four (4) years of service, were charged with offences committed within the State's prisons.  

In a Media Release today (Saturday 22nd November, 2025), the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said an exercise was conducted on Friday (21st November, 2025), at the Extended Remand Facility (ERF) at Golden Grove and the Maximum Security Prison (MSP) in Arouca. The exercise was co-ordinated by Commissioner of Police, Mr. Allister Guevarro, Commissioner of Prisons, Mr. Hayden Forde, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ms. Suzette Martin, Senior Superintendent Raymond Thom, and ASP Stanley. 

On Friday 14th November, 2025, Terry-Ann De Leon, a food vendor at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (POSGH), was arrested after it was unearthed that she caused prohibited articles to be introduced in the Port-of-Spain prison. Ms. De Leon appeared before Master Mohammed at the High Court on 13th November, 2025, where she pleaded not guilty and was granted her own bail.  

Officers attached to the Deputy Commissioner of Police - Operations Team, No. 19231 Ag./Cpl. Williams, No. 19655 Ag./Cpl. Hyde, No. 21631 Woman Police Constable (WPC) Joseph, No. 21625 PC Gibson, No. 21433 PC Fabres, No. 21644 PC Parsons, and No. 21603 PC Stanley, preferred charges to the following inmates, who were found with prohibited articles during an exercise, earlier this month:

  2. Leon Timothy
  3. Kevon Cooper 
  4. Yashim Gill 
  5. Roget Boucher 
  6. Jesus Nicholas
  7. Tafari Bain 
  8. Tarik Lorielle 
  9. Preetam Ramsaran  
  10. Akimo Pompey

The TTPS notes that some of the inmates were slapped with additional charges as they refused to be fingerprinted. They are expected to appear before a High Court Master on Monday (24th November, 2025) to answer the charges.

Also on Friday (21st November, 2025), Prison Officer 1 (PO1), Zane Maynard, attached to the Arouca Maximum Security Prison, appeared before Arima High Court Master Singh-Phillip to answer the charges of possession of marijuana and possession of prohibited articles, offences which occurred on Wednesday 12th November, 2025, at the Arouca Maximum Security Prison. 

PO1 Maynard was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 to cover both charges and is to report to the Arouca Police Station on Saturdays, between 6:00 AM - 8:00 PM. 

The charges were laid by ASP Stanley of the DCP Operations Team.
