Prison Officer Arrested Following Search Exercise At Maximum Security Prison, Arouca

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service, conducted a co-ordinated exercise on Wednesday morning (12th November, 2025), which resulted in the arrest of a Prison Officer.

According to the TTPS, the joint exercise, aimed at maintaining the integrity and security of the nation’s prisons, was co-ordinated by Commissioner of Police, Mr. Allister Guevarro, Commissioner of Prisons, Mr. Hayden Forde, and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ms. Suzette Martin.

Around 8:00 AM on Wednesday, Officers attached to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Team, led by ASP Stanley, along with Cpl. Williams and Cpl. Hyde, conducted random searches of Prison Officers arriving for duty at the Maximum Security Prison (MSP), Arouca.

During the exercise, a Prison Officer was searched and Officers discovered the following:

  • Two (2) vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana.
  • A vacuum-sealed bag containing sixty-nine (69) Broadway cigarettes strapped to his body.
  • Fifteen (15) Astra razor blades in his wallet.

A subsequent search of the Officer’s vehicle led to the discovery of the following:

  • A clear plastic bag containing a quantity of marijuana.
  • Two (2) digital scales.
  • Lighters.
  • A pair of scissors.
  • Two (2) memory cards.
  • A pack of wrapping paper.
  • Two (2) imitation firearms.

The total weight of the marijuana seized was 300 grams.

The TTPS said the Officer was immediately arrested in connection with the finds.

Investigations are ongoing.
