TTPS Clarifies ‘Incident’ Involving Special Branch And Central Division Officers

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is advising the public that the incident currently circulating on social media involving Officers of the Special Branch and the Central Division, occurred during a joint intelligence-driven operation. Social media reports claimed that Central Division Officers were disarmed, pulled from an investigation and escorted to the Police Administration Building today (Wednesday 19th November, 2025), after attempting to intercept a barrel allegedly containing guns and ammunition at a warehouse in El Socorro.

According to the reports, three (3) Central Division Officers arrived at the warehouse sometime after 10:00 AM, but were denied access to the barrel by a Customs Supervisor. Within minutes, Senior Special Branch Officers — including a Senior Superintendent and Superintendent — arrived at the scene, disarmed the Central Division Officers, collected their service firearms and ammunition, and escorted them to the Police Administration Building in Port-of-Spain, based on instructions.

However, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Curt Simon, said no such confrontation occurred and no Officers were disarmed or removed from duty.

In a Media Release this afternoon (Wednesday 19th November, 2025), the TTPS said, based on intelligence received, two (2) operational arms of the TTPS responded simultaneously, “which was consistent with the urgency and sensitivity of the information available at the time.”

The TTPS said it wishes to assure the national community that:

  • Public safety was never compromised;
  • All Officers involved remain on duty; and
  • Joint State of Emergency operations continue nationwide in accordance with established command and control procedures.

The TTPS notes that it “remains committed to maintaining professionalism, safeguarding the public, and ensuring the integrity of all intelligence-led operations.”

The Service is also strongly urging members of the media and the public to “verify information with official TTPS channels before publishing or sharing reports, particularly during a State of Emergency, when misinformation can cause unnecessary panic and compromise ongoing operations.”

The TTPS added that it “remains committed to professionalism, transparency, and the safety and security of all citizens.”

Further updates will be provided by the TTPS as the investigation progresses.

More on this as it becomes available.
