Woman Executed In Montrose, Chaguanas — Single Shot To Head
UPDATE 3: According to new information, Abraham had picked up a passenger from Freedom Street, Enterprise, just minutes before she was murdered at nearby Maraj Street. She was reportedly targeted for her silver Kia Cerato, which she was said to have still been in the process of paying off. It is believed the male passenger announced a robbery and ordered Abraham out of the car. Investigators believe she resisted, at which point she was shot once in the head and pushed out of her own car. The suspect then sped off in the stolen Kia.
UPDATE 2: Travee Technologies Ltd. said it is “deeply saddened by the tragic and senseless killing of Ms. Avanelle Abraham, whose life was taken in the course of trying to earn an honest living. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and community during this extremely difficult time.” The company notes, however, that the victim was not a registered driver on their platform.
In a Press Release on Tuesday (18th November, 2025), Travee Management said, “Following internal verification, Travee can confirm that Ms. Abraham was not registered as a driver on the Travee platform and therefore was not conducting a trip on behalf of Travee at the time of the incident. While she was not part of our driver network, this devastating loss affects the entire rideshare and transportation community. Travee strongly condemns acts of violence against individuals who work tirelessly to support themselves and their families. No person should face harm while simply trying to make an honest dollar.”
As part of its ongoing commitment to safety, Travee is reminding the national community of the robust protective measures in place for both drivers and riders:
Travee Safety Features
- SOS Emergency Button: Enables immediate alerts to emergency contacts and rapid response channels.
- Live GPS Tracking: All rides can be monitored in real-time by both riders and their loved ones, ensuring full visibility from start to finish.
- Mandatory Rider Verification: All Travee riders must verify their identity before accessing the platform, enhancing driver security and accountability.
- Driver Monitoring & Secure Ride Logs: Every trip is digitally documented, where a unique pin must be presented for all rides. This ensures an additional layer of safety and traceability.
Travee said it “remains committed to working with national stakeholders to support safer transportation solutions across Trinidad and Tobago. We urge all users, drivers and passengers to remain vigilant and make full use of the safety tools available on the platform. We once again express our deepest sympathy to the family of Ms. Abraham. May her soul rest in peace.”
UPDATE: The victim, Avanelle Abraham, is said to have been a rideshare driver who was shot dead and robbed of her car, a silver Kia Cerato (PDZ 3276). The stolen vehicle was used the following night in a shooting incident in Enterprise, Chaguanas, in which two (2) pedestrians were wounded.
Around 8:00 PM on Monday (17th November, 2025), the victims were walking along Freedom Street when a silver Kia Cerato approached from behind. Three (3) male suspects alighted from the vehicle, two (2) armed with firearms, and opened fire.
Both victims sustained multiple gunshot injuries to the right back, left leg, and right hip. They were rushed to the Chaguanas Health Facility and later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mount Hope, where they remain in stable condition.
Investigators confirmed that the Kia Cerato used in the attack had been stolen the previous day.
A woman is dead following a shooting incident in Montrose, Chaguanas, on Sunday afternoon (16th November, 2025). The deceased has been identified as Avanelle Abraham.
According to reports, residents near LP #8 Maraj Street, Montrose, heard a single loud explosion, around 4:58 PM. Moments later, a silver vehicle — make, model, and registration unknown — was seen driving out of Maraj Street, heading South. Abraham’s body was then found on the roadway.
Police and Emergency Health Services were notified.
Officers from the Central Division Task Force were dispatched to the area. Upon arrival near LP #8 Maraj Street, Officers found Abraham lying motionless on the roadway with a gunshot wound to the left side of her head, and a grey cushion placed beneath her legs.
The area was immediately secured and a District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who officially pronounced Abraham dead and ordered her body removed, pending a post-mortem examination at the Forensic Science Centre.
Described as of mixed descent and appearing to be in her 30s, the woman is believed to have been flung from the vehicle she was in before being shot in the head.
Speaking to the Trinidad Express, a 40-year-old resident said, “We ran out of our house and we saw a vehicle speeding off,” adding that the vehicle was silver-coloured, but that he was unable to identify the make and model of the car.
“When we walked out, we saw a woman on the ground. One time, I called the Police because I had a feeling she was dead. Normally, you would expect a person to make some noise when they are shot, but she was unresponsive,” the resident continued.
He added that the body was on the roadway for approximately thirty (30) minutes before Police responded to the incident. “We have never seen this woman, so we’re sure she’s not from this street,” he stated, adding that he believed the perpetrator was from another community.
The resident said in his twenty (20) years of living in the Maraj Street, Montrose, community, this was the first incident of its kind. This is a protected community. Allied Security’s headquarters is not far from here,” he said.
He lamented that crime continued to infiltrate quiet communities, especially in Central Trinidad.
“Unfortunately, we have gotten accustomed to it now. For the past ten (10) years, it seems like Central has the highest rates of home invasion and murder,” he said.
Police have not yet established a motive for this murder.
Investigations are continuing.
More on this as it becomes available.
