Son Nick Reiner Denied Bail Following Brutal Murders of Father Rob Reiner, Mother Michele Reiner

UPDATE (17/12/25): The Reiner family has issued the following statement to TMZ:

“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren't just our parents; they were our best friends.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life.

“We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”

Nick appeared in Court today (Wednesday 17th December, 2025) for the first time since his parents were brutally murdered. He was seated behind glass in a Los Angeles Courtroom for a very brief appearance and did not enter a plea. His arraignment was continued to 7th January, 2026.

Prosecutors have charged Nick with two (2) counts of murder with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders. He also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon to commit the crimes — a knife.

The bodies of legendary director, Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were found in their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, on Sunday afternoon (14th December, 2025), with both their throats slit. The gruesome discovery was made by one of their daughters.

The couple's son, Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested on Monday (15th December, 2025) for the double murder. This was announced by Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Jim McDonnell, who said Nick is a suspect in the case. He was initially granted bail in the sum of US $4 million, which was subsequently withdrawn. Nick is said to be on suicide watch and in administrative segregation at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in L.A., while being held without bail.

Nick previously spoke publicly about his long battle with drug addiction and periods of homelessness, as well as his tumultuous relationship with his father.

According to reports, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) was called to a home in Brentwood to provide medical aid, around 3:30 PM on Sunday afternoon. Upon arrival, they found a man, 78, and a woman, 68, dead at the scene.

Prior to Rob and Michele's stabbing, Nick got into a “very loud argument” with his father at Conan O'Brien's Christmas party on Saturday night. Reports state the shouting match was loud enough for many others present to hear, and that Rob and Michele then left the party. It is unclear whether Nick also left with them. A source said Nick looked out of place at the party, mostly keeping to himself.

Rob was a director, producer and actor whose career includes some of Hollywood’s most beloved films — from his 1984 directorial debut, This Is Spinal Tap, to Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally...(1989), Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992).

He first became famous for his role as Mike on the Norman Lear TV sitcom, All in the Family.

Rob was born in the Bronx, New York, in 1947. His father was legendary comedian, Carl Reiner, who passed away in 2020, and his mother was actress and singer, Estelle Lebost.

Rob and Michele met when Rob directed When Harry Met Sally, and the couple married in 1989 before having three (3) children — Jake, Romy and Nick.

Rob also has a daughter, Tracy, from his first marriage to director, Penny Marshall.

Investigations are continuing into the brutal double murder.
