Member of LOVE Political Party Shot Dead In POS — First Murder of 2026

A man is dead following a shooting incident in Port-of-Spain on Thursday (1st January, 2026). The deceased has been identified as Ricky Taylor, aka ‘Fish,’ who was said to be a member of the Laventille Outreach for Vertical Enrichment (LOVE) political party.

According to reports, Taylor was gunned down at the corner of George and Prince Streets, Port-of-Spain, moments after walking out of the LOVE office — marking the first recorded murder of 2026.

Founder and political leader of LOVE, Lennox Smith, expressed shock at the murder of a member — near his George Street office in Port-of-Spain.

Speaking with reporters near the murder scene, Smith said Taylor had moments before left the office to purchase grocery items for a cook they were about to have. He said he was not aware that Taylor had been involved in criminal activities but promised the work of his party will continue, despite the tragedy that unfolded on New Year's Day.

Investigations are continuing into the brazen murder.
