Ministry Issues Statement Regarding January 2026 Grant And Pension Payments

The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS) said it has taken note of claims circulating on social media, which allege that payments for grants, including Senior Citizens Pensions, Public Assistance, and Disability Grants for January 2026, were delayed.

In a Media Release today (Friday 2nd January, 2026), the Ministry is advising that these claims are “factually incorrect and confirms that cheques for all applicable grants and pensions for January 2026 were despatched in accordance with established payment schedules, and that beneficiaries had access to their funds on January 1, 2026, consistent with established operational timelines.”

According to the Ministry, “At no point were payments outstanding beyond the scheduled period, nor were beneficiaries deprived of their entitled assistance as alleged. The dissemination of inaccurate information of this nature has the potential to cause unnecessary distress and confusion among members of the public, particularly vulnerable individuals who rely on these services.”

The Ministry said it “remains steadfast in its mandate to put people first and remains fully committed to the timely delivery of social assistance grants and programmes and to upholding the dignity, well-being, and best interests of its clients.”

The Ministry is encouraging members of the public to seek information through official Ministry channels only.

Please be guided accordingly.
