P.M. Kamla Persad-Bissessar Insists Trinidad And Tobago NOT Part of U.S. Military Operations In Venezuela

In a brief statement on her X account this morning (Saturday 3rd January, 2026), Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, said, “Earlier this morning, Saturday 3rd January, 2026, the United States commenced military operations within the territory of Venezuela. Trinidad and Tobago is NOT a participant in any of these ongoing military operations.”

She added, “Trinidad and Tobago continues to maintain peaceful relations with the people of Venezuela.”

It is to be noted, however, that while Trinidad and Tobago is not engaged in direct combat, the Government has approved a U.S. military radar installation in Tobago and allowed U.S. military logistical access to local Airports, which may be seen by some as indirectly supporting U.S. operations related to Venezuela.

The U.S., at the direction of President Donald Trump, captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, First Lady Cilia Flores, and have extracted them from the country in a military operation carried out in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement. They are currently en route to the U.S. to face multiple charges.
