TTPS Maintains Heightened Security Posture In Response To Venezuela Situation

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is advising the national community that it has been closely monitoring recent regional developments and has already implemented a series of precautionary operational measures to ensure the continued safety and security of the nation.

This follows the well-coordinated capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, First Lady Cilia Flores, in a United States military operation early this morning (Saturday 3rd January, 2026). 

Several streets in Port-of-Spain have since been blocked, with Police Officials emphasizing that the measures are precautionary and form part of the TTPS’ ongoing commitment to national security.

In a Media Release, the TTPS said, “It is the responsibility of the TTPS to anticipate risks, maintain public confidence, and ensure that Trinidad and Tobago remains safe and secure during periods of uncertainty. In keeping with this mandate, strategic operations have been activated.”

The TTPS is emphasizing that these actions are “precautionary and form part of its ongoing commitment to national security. There is no need for public alarm as these measures are designed to ensure readiness, stability, and continuity of service should circumstances evolve.”

Citizens are encouraged to remain calm, stay informed through official channels, and report any suspicious activity to the Police. The TTPS notes that public vigilance, paired with responsible information sharing, remains an essential component of national resilience.

Commissioner of Police, Allister Guevarro, emphasized that the TTPS will “keep the situation under constant review and update the public accordingly, reminding that as the saying goes, ‘when your neighbour's house on fire, the prudent thing is to wet yours.’”

Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, has since insisted that Trinidad and Tobago is NOT a participant in any of these ongoing military operations in Venezuela.

Mandatory Fixed Penalty Warning System For These 18 Traffic Violations To Take Effect From Monday

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation is advising members of the public that, effective from Monday (2nd March, 2026), mandatory Fixed Penalty Warnings will be implemented for eighteen (18) specified traffic violations contained in the Eleventh Schedule to the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act , Chap. 48:50, aimed at improving road safety, encouraging compliance, and promoting corrective action. In a Media Release on Friday (27th February, 2026), the Ministry said, “ Motorists in breach of the listed violations will be issued a Fixed Penalty Warning instead of a Fixed Penalty Notice. Police Constable Hospitalized In Critical Condition Following ‘Incident’ At Sangre Grande Police Station

UPDATE (24/02/26): The injured Officer has been identified as PC Jonathan Bonaldo, who is assigned to the Sangre Grande Police Station. He is still receiving treatment for his severe injuries at Hospital. Bonaldo reportedly managed to get to his feet after his fall and made his way into the station’s Charge Room. Bleeding from the head, he is said to have rested his head on the Station Diary, leaving it stained with blood. He then walked into the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) office, where he laid down on a desk, before being rushed for emergency medical treatment. 28-Year-Old Man Shot Dead Inside Car In Santa Cruz; 23 Spent Shells Found

A man is dead following a shooting incident in Santa Cruz last night (Wednesday 25th February, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old labourer, Hakeem Baker, also known as “Peng,” of Northwest Drive, Patna Village, Diego Martin. He was gunned down inside a car. According to reports, Officers of the North Eastern Division were alerted about several loud explosions heard on Sun Valley Extension, La Canoa Road, shortly before 9:00 PM, and responded to the scene. A man is dead following a shooting incident in Barataria earlier today (Sunday 1st March, 2026). The deceased has been identified as Rivaldo Pierre of Gilkes Street, Four Roads, Diego Martin.  According to reports, Pierre was shot inside a house along 10th Street, Barataria. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. However, Pierre succumbed to his injuries. 56-Year-Old Businessman Dies At Hospital Following Armed Robbery In Gulf View

A man has died at Hospital, days after a shooting incident during a robbery at his sales tent in Gulf View on Saturday night (14th February, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 56-year-old Vijay Nanan of Rousillac. According to reports, the businessman and his employee, 40-year-old Yudelcy Martinez, were conducting sales at his tent along Gulf View Link Road, when two (2) men dressed in dark clothing stormed in and announced a robbery, around 7:00 PM. Nanan allegedly refused to surrender and armed himself with a cutlass, in an attempt to defend his employee and the day’s earnings. A struggle ensued between Nanan and the bandits inside the small tent.
