Met Office Issues Hazardous Seas Alert Until Saturday Morning

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued a Hazardous Seas Alert (Yellow Level) for a total of seventy-six (76) hours. The Alert begins at 5:00 AM on Wednesday (25th February, 2026) and will remain in effect until 9:00 AM on Saturday (28th February, 2026) for Northern-exposed coastlines of Trinidad and Tobago, including North-facing coastlines of the Gulf of Paria to a lesser extent.

According to the Met Office, high energy, long period Northerly swells are expected to produce large breakers along near-shore Northern coastal areas. This event can cause large, battering waves, exacerbated at High Tides, along these shorelines. Near-shore activities, including fishing, swimming and boat moorings can be disrupted. Impacts may also include intrusion of salt water and displacement of sand, further than the average reach point.

Instructions

  • All marine interests should monitor near-shore sea conditions and exercise extra caution along affected coasts.
  • Limit nearshore marine activities.
  • Continue to monitor updates from official sites: TTMS at www.metoffice.gov.tt and access more information and instructions from www.odpm.gov.tt.

Please continue to pay attention to the latest forecasts, alerts, and information issued by the TTMS.
