TCL Confirms 15% Price Hike In Sacks of Cements — From 9th February, 2026
Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL) is advising customers that there will be a 15% increase in the price of its sacks/bags of cements, effective from 9th February, 2026, due to an increase in natural gas prices which the company said is having a “direct and significant impact” on its production costs.
TCL signaled its intention to raise prices in a previous notice to customers on 26th January, 2026), stating that it was awaiting a final determination on the gas price increase proposed by the National Gas Company (NGC), which was expected by 31st January, 2026. The company noted at the time that natural gas is “a critical input in cement manufacturing” and that the proposed increase would significantly affect its production cost.
In a new letter to customers on Monday (2nd February, 2026), TCL General Manager Gonzalo Rueda Castillo said, “Following our communication of 26 January 2026, we would like to share an important update regarding recent developments affecting our operations with potential impact on the construction sector. As the National Gas Company's (NGC) previously announced increase in natural gas prices has now been confirmed retroactive to 1 January 2026, this is having a direct and significant impact on TCL's production costs.”
Castillo added, “While TCL remains deeply concerned about the broader impact of these gas prices on your business, end users and the construction sector, it necessitates a 15% price adjustment, effective 9 February 2026 on sacks. TCL remains firmly committed to maintaining its operations in the country, supporting more than 350 direct employees and over 400 local contractors and suppliers, and continuing its contribution to the economy as a leading foreign exchange generator, with exports expected to exceed US $40 million in 2026. We value our long-standing partnership with you and will continue to work together to navigate these challenging market conditions.”
The letter concluded by saying, “We sincerely appreciate your understanding, cooperation, and continued confidence in the TCL brand.”
Based on calculations by Guardian Media, the proposed 15% increase in the price of a bag of TCL cement at Bhagwansingh’s Hardware, one of T&T’s largest chains, could take the estimated ex-factory price to $68.42 and the VAT inclusive price to $77. By comparison, a bag of Rock Hard cement currently sells for $62 VAT inclusive — which the company hopes to hold steady.
Managing Director of Rock Hard Cement, Ryna Ramhit, which imports cement into T&T, recently said that the company was committed to holding its prices steady.
“There’s no increase in price in the foreseeable future. Of course, if something drastic happens to affect my end price, my end cost...Rock Hard is here to support Trinidad and Tobago. So, I will always do my best to ensure that my prices are low so I can bring affordable cement into the entire country,” said Ramhit.
More on this as it becomes available.
