PNM Rejects Keith Rowley’s Claim He Was Not Invited To 70th Anniversary Celebrations

The People’s National Movement (PNM) is firmly rejecting claims made by its former political leader and former Prime Minister of the country, Dr. Keith Rowley, that he was not invited to the party’s 70th Anniversary Celebrations, held on 26th January, 2026 at Queen's Hall, stating that an official invitation was in fact sent and hand-delivered to his residence. The party also produced the signed invitation letter by PNM General Secretary Foster Cummings.

Dr. Rowley, speaking at a Press Conference on Tuesday (17th March, 2026), expressed his disappointment over what he said was a lack of inclusion in the milestone event. He told reporters that despite his fifteen (15) years of leadership — including time in opposition and two (2) General Election victories — he only became aware of the celebrations through other means.

However, in a Media Statement issued on Tuesday following Dr. Rowley’s remarks, the PNM said, “The People's National Movement, in the highest traditions of courtesy, fellowship and good-will, publicly invited all members to attend its 70th Anniversary Celebrations, held on Monday, January 26th, 2026 at the Winifred Atwell Auditorium, Queen's Hall.”

The party added, “As is customary for special guests, a letter of invitation was issued through the Office of the General Secretary to former Political Leader, Dr. Keith Rowley. The letter, dated January 21st, was hand delivered to Dr. Rowley's residence on January 22nd, 2026.”

According to the PNM, “This momentous event was attended by hundreds of members, including current and former Executive Officers of the party, Members of Parliament, and Local Government officials.”

The Media Statement concluded by saying, “The Leadership of the PNM takes this opportunity to thank all who attended, and while we noted Dr. Rowley's absence as our loss, we look forward to his presence at one of the events planned in celebration of this, the PNM's platinum jubilee.”

UPDATE (18/04/26): A post-mortem examination conducted at the Forensic Science Centre on Friday (17th April, 2026) revealed that Frederick Aaron Stevenson died from blunt force trauma to the head, with investigators alleging he was killed with a sledgehammer before his body was dumped in a forested area off Esmeralda Road, Las Lomas. UPDATE (24/04/26): The Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago announced this morning (Friday 24th April, 2026) that the relocation of domestic operations, scheduled to begin from today, has been postponed until further notice. According to the Authority, “The planned redirection of domestic passengers through international checkpoints will not take effect at this time.
