Soldier Shot Dead In Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas — ‘TTR,’ ‘TTAG’ Shells Found

A Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) soldier is dead following a shooting incident near the HDC Towers in Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas, last night (Saturday 14th March, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Private Jaelani Garcia Williams (No. 13270) of Balmoral Park, Chaguanas.
According to reports, Williams was shot along La Clave Street, Edinburgh 500, near the 360 Mini Mart and the HDC Towers, around 9:42 PM. He had just exited the mini-mart and was about to enter the driver’s seat of his black Nissan X-Trail (PCR 8380), when a gunman dressed in dark clothing ran up to him and opened fire. Williams attempted to flee but collapsed a short distance away. A second gunman then appeared and also fired at the victim on the ground. Both men then fled the scene.
Police and Emergency Health Services were notified around 9:50 PM and responded. Upon arrival around 10:00 PM, Williams was found with multiple gunshot wounds about the body, lying face-down on the roadway. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
A District Medical Officer (DMO) was summoned, who pronounced Williams dead and ordered the body removed to the Forensic Science Centre, pending a post-mortem examination.
Crime scene investigators recovered sixteen (16) spent 9mm shell casings and five (5) spent .40 calibre casings bearing various markings, including “TTR” (Trinidad and Tobago Regiment) and “TTAG” (Trinidad and Tobago Air Guard).
Officers also recovered a Sarsilmaz pistol tucked in the waistband of Williams’ pants, loaded with a magazine containing seventeen (17) rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Williams’ vehicle was seized and taken to the Special Evidence Recovery Unit (SERU) for further examination.
Police have not yet established a motive for this murder.
Investigations are continuing.
