Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle While Attempting To Cross Highway In Chaguanas
A pedestrian is currently hospitalized after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the Uriah Butler Highway, in the vicinity of the Divali Nagar site in Chaguanas, on Wednesday afternoon (1st April, 2026). The victim has been identified as Lester Joseph. Initial reports stating the man succumbed to his injuries were later deemed incorrect.
According to reports, a 41-year-old man from Williamsville was driving a white Hyundai Tucson (PDN 5709), heading North along the middle lane, when Joseph attempted to cross the Highway near the Divali Nagar site, around 12:45 PM. While the motorist attempted to avoid the collision, the left side of the vehicle still struck Joseph.
Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene. Joseph was subsequently conveyed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mount Hope via Ambulance, where he was treated for a fractured right arm and lacerations to his right eye and forehead.
Hospital staff have since confirmed he is in stable condition.
Investigations are continuing.
