Another U.S. Citizen Shot Dead In T&T — 24-Year-Old Man Ambushed, Killed In Belmont
A man is dead following a shooting incident in Belmont on Monday night (8th September, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Rahiem Elijah Thomas of Agostini Street, Gonzales and Belmont. He was also a United States citizen — gunned down a week after arriving in Trinidad.
According to reports, Thomas was walking along Upper Oxford Street, around 11:00 PM, when he was ambushed by three (3) men armed with assault rifles. Residents heard rapid gunfire, and upon investigation, found Thomas lying on the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds.
Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and he was taken to the nearby Port-of-Spain General Hospital (POSGH), where he was declared dead.
At the time of the shooting, Thomas was said to be leaving an area controlled by the “7” criminal gang and walking back into the “6ixx”-controlled community. He was allegedly killed by persons within his own community.
Crime scene investigators recovered thirty-one (31) spent 5.56 shells, three (3) spent 9mm shells and four (4) live rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Thomas had apparently entered the country on Monday 1st September, 2025.
U.S. citizen Kawandy Dixon, 38, was also shot and killed on Sunday night (7th September, 2025) in Enterprise, Chaguanas, when gunmen targeted another man nearby. Three (3) others were left wounded in that attack.
Investigations are continuing into both murders.
More on this as it becomes available.
