Beretta Pistol, Ammunition Seized During Anti-Crime Exercises In Western And Port-of-Spain Divisions

Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) Officers successfully recovered a firearm and a quantity of ammunition during two (2) co-ordinated anti-crime exercises, conducted in the Western and Port-of-Spain Divisions on Monday (22nd September, 2025).

The operations were conducted under the authority of the Emergency Powers Regulations 2025, targeting illegal firearms and ammunition.

According to the TTPS, between the hours of 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM on Monday night, Officers attached to the Western Division Task Force conducted a foot patrol in the hills of Fort George Road, St. James, along a track leading to Upper Waterhole, Cocorite.

The exercise, sanctioned by Senior Superintendent Williams, spearheaded by ASP Aguilleira and Inspector Grant, and co-ordinated by Sergeant Hunte, included several Officers of the Task Force and members of the Western Division Gang Unit.

While on patrol, the TTPS said Officers observed three (3) men dressed in dark clothing sitting along the track. The men looked in the direction of the Officers and ran in various directions. A search of the area led to the discovery of one (1) Beretta pistol, fitted with a magazine loaded with seven (7) rounds of 9mm ammunition.

In a separate operation conducted between 2:30 PM and 8:00 PM on the same date, Officers from the Western and Port-of-Spain Divisions, including units from Fort Chacon, Duncan Street, and the Canine Unit, carried out co-ordinated searches in the areas of Powder Magazine (Cocorite), Gibson Trace (Laventille), and Lodge Place (East Dry River).

The TTPS notes that this operation, spearheaded by ACP Hazel, Snr Supt Ramnarine, Supt Ramsook, and ASP Singh, and co-ordinated by Inspector Steele and Sergeant Bethelmy, focused on high-risk areas known for illegal activities.

During the search of an abandoned structure at Lodge Place, acting on credible information, PC Smith discovered a black plastic-wrapped box, containing fifty (50) brass cylindrical objects resembling .40 calibre ammunition.

Investigations are ongoing in these matters.

The TTPS said it “remains committed to aggressively pursuing all leads in the fight against illegal firearms and criminal activity. We urge members of the public to continue supporting the TTPS by sharing information via our hotlines or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS.”
