Search Intensifies For Missing Caribbean Airlines Pilot Daniel Kawall; Van Found In Cascade

UPDATE 2: Kawall was rescued by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) this afternoon (Sunday 7th September, 2025) in the Maraval district. Details here.

UPDATE: The Toyota Hilux, which was initially found abandoned along Hololo Road, Cascade, was allegedly relocated to Penal Rock Road by the suspects, and ultimately found completely burnt out this evening (Saturday 6th September, 2025) along a dirt road at Eccles Trace, Grant Road Extension, Rousillac/La Brea. The vehicle was apparently set ablaze in a bid to destroy any evidence contained within.

A massive search is currently underway for a missing Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL) pilot, who was last seen under disturbing circumstances on Wednesday night (3rd September, 2025). The victim has been identified as 59-year-old Daniel Kawall of Palm Drive North, Valsayn. His family said his last communication with them was at 5:00 PM that day. However, subsequent calls to his phone have gone straight to voicemail, prompting relatives to file a missing person report with Police.

Kawal was later seen on Wednesday night (3rd September, 2025) on Spring Bank Avenue, Cascade, where residents reported hearing screams and witnessing a violent struggle between him and three (3) men inside his vehicle, a gold Toyota Hilux (TCM 1787). Residents called the Police but it is alleged that Officers never responded to the scene.

His Toyota Hilux, which was also reported missing, was found abandoned along Hololo Road, Cascade, on Friday (5th September, 2025) — with no sign of Kawall. The vehicle was later taken to the Special Evidence Recovery Unit in Cumuto for processing.

A resident of Cascade, who asked to be identified only as “Chris,” told reporters that neighbours discovered Kawall's vehicle parked near their home. The man said the Toyota Hilux was on the opposite side of the road on an embankment, partially off the road, around the corner from his apartment. He reported it to Police on Thursday morning (4th September, 2025) after noticing it had been left there overnight.

“When I called the Police, they said they had no bulletin on the vehicle being stolen,” Chris said. He added, “No one came yesterday [Thursday] evening, and when I checked this morning, the vehicle was not there. I assumed the Police had taken it.” However, when Police visited the scene, they said they had not moved the vehicle.

In a statement, Caribbean Airlines said, “The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of Caribbean Airlines, are deeply saddened by reports concerning our missing colleague Captain Daniel Kawall. We kindly ask that the privacy of Captain Kawall's family be respected. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”

The disappearance of the pilot has since sparked widespread concern as searches have intensified in the Cascade area and beyond.

Investigations are continuing.

More on this as it becomes available.
