34-Year-Old Coconut Vendor Shot Dead While Dumping Shells In Barrackpore

A man is dead following a shooting incident in Barrackpore on Thursday night (23rd October, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old coconut vendor, Michael Seeraj, of No. 37 Pancham Trace, Rochard Road, Barrackpore. He is said to have sold coconut water at the traffic lights at Gulf View.

According to reports, Seeraj and another man went to an agricultural area off Ramsabad Trace, Barrackpore, in Seeraj’s white Isuzu 3-tonne truck (TDU 9919), to dispose of coconut shells, around 7:35 PM on Thursday night. However, while they were dumping the load of shells, the man heard several loud explosions and ran from the scene in fear. He later went to the Barrackpore Police Station and reported the incident, around 8:10 PM.

Officers PC Seecharan and WPC Dyer responded to the location and upon arrival around 8:45 PM, found Seeraj’s truck parked facing North with both driver and passenger doors open.

Seeraj’s body was lying face-down on the ground to the left of the vehicle, clad in a white armless t-shirt and blue pants, with a visible gunshot wound to the left shoulder.

Officers checked for signs of life but found none. The area was cordoned off.

Crime scene investigators recovered several items of evidential value, including TT $2,300 in cash, found in the deceased’s back pocket.

A District Medical Officer (DMO) viewed the body, made an official pronouncement, and ordered its removal to the San Fernando General Hospital Mortuary for safekeeping, pending a post-mortem at the Forensic Science Centre.

Police have not yet established a motive for this murder.

Investigations are continuing.
