Met Office Issues Hazardous Seas Alert Until Tuesday Afternoon
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued a Hazardous Seas Alert (Yellow Level) for twenty-seven (27) hours. The Alert begins at 12:00 PM today (Monday 20th October, 2025) and will remain in effect until 3:00 PM on Tuesday (21st October, 2025) for Northern coastal areas of Trinidad and Tobago and, to a lesser extent, the North-facing coastline in the Gulf of Paria.
An Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) remains in effect until 10:00 PM tonight
According to the Met Office, high energy, Northerly, long-period swells of up to sixteen (16) seconds, in combination with Spring Tides, are expected to affect the islands.
Impacts:
- Agitated seas with exacerbated conditions at High Tides.
- Larger than normal breakers with large battering waves in the surf zone.
- Disruption of near-shore activities, including fishing, swimming and boat moorings.
- Intrusion of salt water and displacement of sand, further than the average reach point.
Instructions:
- All marine interests should carefully monitor near-shore/coastal sea conditions and exercise caution along identified areas.
- Restrict near-shore marine activities.
- Secure coastal property.
