Trump: Israel, Hamas Sign ‘First Phase’ of Gaza Peace Deal
Israel and Hamas have agreed to the “first phase” of a 20-point peace plan pushed by United States President Donald Trump, to end the war in Gaza and return the hostages. This was announced a short while ago this evening (Wednesday 8th October, 2025) by President Trump, marking the biggest breakthrough in months in the 2-year-old war, which began when Hamas attacked Israel on 7th October, 2023.
Trump said he is considering flying to the Middle East this weekend.
The President took to Truth Social on Wednesday to make the announcement, stating: “I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan. This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace. All Parties Will be treated fairly! This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!”

Shortly after, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted on X in Hebrew, which translates to English as, “A great day for Israel. Tomorrow I will convene the government to approve the agreement and bring all our dear hostages home. I thank the heroic soldiers of the IDF and all the security forces, thanks to whose courage and sacrifice we have reached this day. I thank from the depths of my heart President Trump and his team for their mobilization for this sacred mission of releasing our hostages. With the help of the Almighty, together we will continue to achieve all our goals and expand peace with our neighbors.”
Hamas is said to be planning to release all twenty (20) remaining living hostages on Saturday (11th October, 2025), in exchange for at least 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, people familiar with the matter told The Associated Press, while the Israeli military will begin a withdrawal from the majority of Gaza.
Many questions still remain, including whether Hamas will demilitarize, as President Trump has demanded, and who will eventually govern the war-torn territory of Gaza. The agreement nonetheless marks the most momentous development since a deal in January and February that involved the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
