BODIES of UNC Councillor Romona Victor And Her Husband Found In Siparia Home — In Alleged Murder-Suicide
UPDATE 2: Autopsy results have confirmed that Romona was beaten to death, while Rodney died from poisoning. The post-mortem, conducted on Monday (24th November, 2025), determined that Romona sustained fatal blunt force trauma to the head and neck, indicating she died due to a severe beating. Rodney was found to have ingested a toxic substance, consistent with the Rotam Icasso Herbicide recovered at the scene.
Police also recovered a handwritten note from Rodney, in which he expressed remorse for killing Romona, and stated that he could not live without her. Officers are said to have read the contents of the letter to Romona’s father.
UPDATE: Speaking with the Trinidad Express, Romona’s father, Francis Ricardo Victor, recalled the stark warning he recently gave to his daughter: “This man will kill you in this house!”
The badly decomposing bodies of UNC Councillor Romona Teeneal Victor, 36, and her husband, Rodney Ramsumair, 45, were discovered at their home in Siparia on Sunday afternoon (23rd November, 2025), in an alleged murder-suicide. Romona, a mother of one, was serving her second term as the UNC Councillor for Siparia East/San Francique South and chaired the committees for health and community development. She was also recently appointed to the Board of Directors at Heritage Petroleum.
According to reports, Romona's father, Francis Ricardo Victor, found the couple’s decomposing bodies when he went to check on them at their home, which was still under construction, located at Mendez Village, Coora Road, Siparia, around 3:30 PM.
He found them lying motionless on a bed and called his other daughter, who contacted the Police.
Upon arrival, Officers found Romona lying on her back on the bed, covered with a checkered blanket, while Rodney lay next to her with froth emanating from his nose.
Preliminary observations at the scene suggested that Rodney may have ingested a poisonous substance after killing his wife.
As both bodies were in an advanced stage of decomposition, investigators believe they may have been dead for several days before being discovered.
Speaking to Newsday at the Forensic Science Centre in St. James this morning (Monday 24th November, 2025), Rodney's father said the family is still confused. “We don’t know exactly what happened or how it reached to that.”
He said while the couple had their clashes, there was never any indication that it could result in what some have speculated to be a murder-suicide.
He said both families remain in touch and called on people to stop speculating and fuelling bad blood between them. “People calling and asking me a set of questions that I can't answer. Until we get the autopsy results, we don’t know for sure what happened.”
He said the speculation was hurting the family. “People saying all kinds of things and posting things all over social media. They need to stop that because they don’t know what happened either for sure.”
A full forensic examination and autopsies are expected to determine the exact causes and time of deaths of the couple.
