56-Year-Old Woman Found Dead On Pavement In St. James After Altercation
UPDATE (19/12/25): 60-year-old Kenneth Charles has officially been charged with murder. He was re-arrested on Thursday (18th December, 2025) and charged at the St. James Police Station, following new legal advice received from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
UPDATE 2: An autopsy has revealed that Ovid died from multiple blunt force trauma, confirming she was beaten to death. Investigations are continuing.
UPDATE: 60-year-old Kenneth Charles was initially arrested and cautioned in connection with Ovid's death. However, following legal advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Roger Gaspard, he was released from custody, pending further investigations. Police said he co-operated fully, surrendered to authorities, and took Officers to the scene where Ovid’s body was discovered.
Charles reportedly told investigators that he and Ovid were previously in a relationship and claimed that during an argument, she attacked him, leading to a physical fight in which he assaulted her. She then collapsed on the pavement.
A woman is dead following an altercation in St. James with a man known to her, early Sunday morning (7th December, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 56-year-old Nicole Ovid of Romeo Street, St. James. She was found unresponsive on a pavement, shortly after a man walked into the St. James Police Station and admitted involvement in an altercation with her.
According to reports, around 5:15 AM, PC Mohammed and PC Belfour, assigned to the St. James Police Station, were taking a report from a 54-year-old female Ward Attendant, who alleged she had witnessed a physical altercation between the deceased and a man known to her.
However, while Officers were still at the station, the suspect, 60-year-old Kenneth Charles of Back Street, Le Platte Village, Maraval, walked in, identified himself, confirmed that an altercation had occurred, and made several utterances.
Officers, accompanied by the informant and the suspect, then proceeded to the vicinity of Finland Street, St. James, where they found the lifeless body of a woman lying on her back on the Northern pavement, with her left arm stretched over her head and legs crossed. She was clad in a black dress and black-and-white sneakers.
Paramedics arrived at the scene around 5:30 AM and officially confirmed that Ovid had no signs of life.
A District Medical Officer (DMO) also visited the scene, viewed the body and ordered its removal, pending a post-mortem examination at the Forensic Science Centre.
The suspect was arrested and cautioned in connection with her death, based on his earlier statements.
Investigations are continuing.
