Police Respond To Shooting With Intent In Penal; Getaway Vehicle Intercepted In Debe

Police are investigating an incident of shooting with intent that occurred at approximately 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon (6th December, 2025) in Penal.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the victim, a 27-year-old man of Mathura Development, Mohess Road, Penal, was at home with his common-law wife, when two (2) armed men arrived at his residence. The suspects discharged their weapons, but fortunately, Mr. Roopchand sustained no injuries.

The suspects reportedly fled the scene in a white Kia Optima. Following a broadcast by the Command Centre, Officers from the South Western and Southern Divisions co-ordinated an operation, which led to the interception of the vehicle in the vicinity of Lalbaharry Trace, Debe.

The three (3) occupants of the vehicle were arrested and taken to the Penal Police Station for questioning:

  1. A 26-year-old man of Lower Papourie Road, Barrackpore.
  2. A 28-year-old man of 15th Street, Beetham.
  3. A 37-year-old man of 17th Street, Beetham.

The TTPS notes that no firearms were recovered during the search. 

Investigations are ongoing, and the Police continue to urge anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward.

The TTPS said it “remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.”
