3-Year-Old Boy Found Unresponsive At San Fernando Home, Pronounced Dead At Hospital — Police Investigating
A 3-year-old boy has died at the San Fernando General Hospital shortly after he was brought in unresponsive by his parents early Monday morning (12th January, 2026). The deceased has been identified as Omari Richins of Corinth Hills, San Fernando. He was a student of a private pre-school — St. Patrick’s Private School.
According to the child’s mother, she fed her son pineapple and pepperoni pizza, around 8:30 PM on Sunday night (11th January, 2026), which was purchased from a pizza restaurant. Shortly afterwards, however, he complained of head and stomach pains, and by 2:30 AM on Monday morning, he was reportedly still in discomfort.
The mother said she later fell asleep and awoke sometime after 4:00 AM to find her son unresponsive and soaked in vomit. She alerted the child’s 58-year-old father, who administered CPR.
Emergency Health Services were notified and responded to the scene, where they found Omari still unresponsive. Paramedics continued CPR while transporting the child to the San Fernando General Hospital, around 5:25 AM.
Tragically, however, he was pronounced dead at 5:48 AM.
Police were contacted and have subsequently said there were no marks of violence on the child’s body.
An autopsy performed at the San Fernando Mortuary determined that the cause of death was cerebral oedema, aspiration pneumonitis, and lower respiratory tract infection.
Toxicology results are still pending.
Alarmingly, Police have also said there is a possibility that the child could have ingested drain water, potentially contaminated with insecticide or herbicide.
Investigations are continuing by Officers of the Ste. Madeleine Police Station.
More on this as it becomes available.
