EDITOR’S NOTE: The body of this article has been updated with new details.
A businessman is dead following a brutal shooting incident outside his office in Sangre Grande this afternoon (Friday 13th March, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Danny Guerra, the owner of DG Homes, who was previously detained in November under a Preventive Detention Order (PDO) under the last State of Emergency.
According to CCTV footage of the incident, Guerra had just entered his black Toyota Hilux and was about to leave his office, located at the corner of Guy Trace and North Oropouche Road, Sangre Grande, when a white Nissan Tiida pulled up alongside, around 5:15 PM. Two (2) armed men dressed in dark clothing alighted from the vehicle and opened fire on him through the driver’s side glass of the Hilux.
After the initial gunshots were fired through the vehicle’s window, the suspects opened the driver’s door and continued firing at Guerra before fleeing the scene in their Tiida, heading East along Oropouche Road.
Guerra sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Sangre Grande Hospital by a passer-by, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries, around 5:38 PM.
Police are working to determine the motive behind the deadly attack.
Guerra was arrested on 20th November, 2025 under a PDO, which was signed the day before by the Minister of Homeland Security, under the Emergency Powers Regulations. He remained at the Eastern Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre for almost six (6) weeks until his release on 2nd January, 2026.
His Attorneys issued a pre-action protocol letter to the Minister, threatening urgent High Court proceedings unless the order was revoked or supporting material disclosed. In their legal correspondence at the time, his Attorneys argued that the detention was unlawful and claimed there was no evidence linking Guerra to gang leadership, arms trafficking, money laundering, or any plot to threaten public safety.
Investigations are continuing into his murder.
More on this as it becomes available.
