Claxton Bay Man Seeks Assistance For 69-Year-Old Mother Who Suffers From Epileptic Seizures, Dementia
Khemraj Rampersad, a resident of Claxton Bay, is currently facing a very difficult situation, as his 69-year-old mother, Hasina Hosein, has been hospitalized three (3) times in January 2025 due to epileptic seizures and has also been diagnosed with early-stage dementia. Given her condition, she requires full-time care, and as a result, Khemraj is unable to work. He cannot trust a stranger to care for her, especially considering how vulnerable and unpredictable her condition can be. He has learnt how to manage her seizures and understand her needs, which is why it is crucial that he continue to care for her himself.
The financial burden has been overwhelming, as her old-age pension is not enough to cover all her needs. Between purchasing medication, and other items, he is struggling to keep up with expenses. Despite his efforts to seek support through social welfare, he has not yet received any assistance.
At this time, Khemraj is in urgent need of grocery items, adult diapers (size L) and wipes, a blood pressure testing kit and a sugar testing kit for his mother. Any help, no matter how small, would make a tremendous difference for them during this challenging time.

Prior to this unfortunate situation, Khemraj worked in Administrative and Accounting. He is specialized in social media management, customer service and graphic designing. He is also open to part-time work-from-home job opportunities.
If you are able to assist or know of any resources that could help, please reach out to him at 752-0583. Donations can also be made to Scotiabank (Marabella) - Chequing 617054003009.
Your kindness and generosity would mean the world to him and his mother. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and may you be blessed for any support you can provide.
Update from Khemraj as of 30th April, 2025:
“Good day everyone,
So just a little update. Today I went to the Social Welfare Office in San Fernando, only to be told that I am not eligible for additional assistance because I am not medically unfit to work. Despite explaining my situation and presenting all the necessary documents, I was not given an opportunity to speak with a social officer or even offered an appointment.
I am currently the sole caregiver for my mother, who suffers from frequent epileptic seizures and early-stage dementia. Her condition requires someone to be with her at all times. I cannot trust a stranger to care for her, especially considering how vulnerable and unpredictable her condition can be. I’ve learned how to manage her seizures and understand her needs, which is why it is crucial that I continue to care for her myself.
All I’m asking for is a little additional financial assistance to help cover our basic needs. It is extremely difficult to manage everything — unpaid bills, medical expenses, medications, transportation to and from doctors’ appointments — on just her old-age pension. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to cover all these expenses on my own.
I am also unable to make our home safer and more comfortable for my mom, which is something she urgently needs due to her medical condition.
Please continue to share this message, and if you’re able to assist us in any way — financially or by connecting us to resources — it would mean so much. Every little bit of support can make a big difference.
Thank you to those who would have already reached out and assisted however they could.
Thank you sincerely for taking the time to read this, and for any help you may be able to offer.”
