iPhone 17 ‘Awe Dropping’ Event: Here Are All The Last-Minute Rumors

If you’re looking for the very latest rumor roundup of what we can expect at the iPhone 17 “Awe Dropping” event, which begins at 1:00 PM ET (10:00 AM PT) today (Tuesday 9th September, 2025), you’ve hit the jackpot.

(P.S. You can watch the live stream of the event right here).

New iPhone 17 Models

Aside from the expected iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, Apple is rumored to announce a replacement for the Plus model this year — a new super-thin model dubbed the “iPhone 17 Air.” Instead of getting a bigger version of the base iPhone 17 model, we could therefore get something that has an identity of its own.

Leaks suggest the iPhone 17 Air will measure in somewhere between 5mm and 6mm of thickness. That would make it Apple's slimmest iPhone yet, putting it in direct competition with the recently-released Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which is only 5.8mm thick.

iPhone 17 Displays

Below are the rumored display sizes for each new iPhone 17 model:

  • iPhone 17: 6.3-inch
  • iPhone 17 Air: 6.65-inch
  • iPhone 17 Pro: 6.3-inch
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: 6.7-inch

Unlike previous years, where only the Pro models featured “ProMotion” (120Hz refresh rate on its displays), this year the exciting rumor is that both the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will reportedly gain this feature — for smoother scrolling, more responsive touch input, and better visuals while also saving battery when higher refresh rates are not needed. This would amount to a massive upgrade for Apple and would make the base and Air models even more appealing.

The Pros are also rumored to include anew heat management system and vapor chamber, which should ideally improve performance, especially under heavy load.

iPhone 17 Chips

The new iPhones will have the undoubtedly powerful and efficient A19 chips inside. As in previous years, the base model will likely have a regular A19 chip, while the Pro and Pro Max models will have a more powerful A19 Pro chip. Meanwhile, the Air model is rumored to have a slightly downgraded version of the A19 Pro chip instead of a base A19, potentially giving it some additional juice over the base iPhone 17.

iPhone 17 Cameras

The front-facing selfie camera is set to get a big upgrade for the new iPhones. If rumors are true, they'll have 24MP lenses, up from 12MP on previous models. On the back, the Pro models will have a trio of 48MP lenses this time, with improved optical zoom from 5x to 8x. Last year, the telephoto lens was only 12MP, so that could potentially be a big step up. One last thing to note is that the Air model will supposedly only have one rear camera (no ultra-wide or telephoto lenses), similar to the old iPhone SE and iPhone 16e models.

Rumors also point to official multi-camera video recording coming to the native Camera app, along with a new “Pro Camera” app that would provide users with more professional-level controls — and possibly competing with popular third-party apps like Halide or Filmic Pro.

iPhone 17 Batteries

Below are the rumored battery capacities for each new iPhone 17 model:

  • iPhone 17: 3,692 mAH
  • iPhone 17 Air: 3,149 mAH
  • iPhone 17 Pro: 4,252 mAH
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: 5,088 mAH

All iPhone 17 models are rumored to get bigger batteries this year, compared to their 16 predecessors. The biggest gains, however, will apparently come to the iPhone 17 Pro, whose capacity is said to be increasing by 18.7%, compared to the iPhone 16 Pro, which has a battery capacity of 3,582 mAH. The iPhone 17 Pro battery capacity will reportedly be 4,252 mAH, which is an additional 670 mAH that could theoretically translate into an extra four (4) hours of quoted battery life. That would mean the 17 Pro would be rated for longer battery life than what Apple claims the 16 Pro Max can achieve.

As for the larger iPhone 17 Pro Max, this model could break the 5,000 mAH barrier for the first time, topping out at 5,088 mAH (in the ballpark of high-end Android phones). That’s compared to 4,685 mAH for the 16 Pro Max, up 8.6% year-over-year. Similarly to the iPhone 17 Pro, that represents an approximate 400 mAH jump, so we can expect an extra three (3) or four (4) hours of usable daily battery life.

When factoring how efficiently iPhones run, it’s possible the iPhone 17 Pro Max will become the new king of smartphone battery life — a tremendous feat.

There has been much speculation that the super-thin iPhone 17 Air will disappoint when it comes to battery life, with a capacity that is 17% less than even the base model iPhone 17. We’ll have to wait and see how this particular (battery) story unfolds.

iPhone 17 Colors

Leaker Sonny Dixon recently posted some photos of iPhone 17 dummy models, allegedly showing the color options for this year's new models — including a new orange color for the Pro models.

The Pro models also appear to have regular black, white, and dark blue options for people who want something a little less punchy.

In an unusual twist, the base iPhone 17 model and the Air seem to have less exciting color options this year than the Pro phones. In the photos, the base model appears in black, white, light blue, and pink. The Air, meanwhile, comes in black, white, beige, and light blue.

iPhone 17 Accessories

There are rumors that we will see Apple announce several new accessories to go along with the new iPhone 17 models, such as the Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch SE 3, Apple Watch Ultra 3 and AirPods Pro 3.

Some other rumored accessories include the following:

  • New silicone cases.
  • New TechWoven cases.
  • Crossbody straps for Apple cases.
  • Battery case for iPhone 17 Air.
  • Bumper-style case for iPhone 17 Air.

A puzzling rumored accessory is the “Crossbody Strap,” which will presumably attach to the new iPhone 17 cases from Apple, which will include lanyard holes on the bottom. This will allow the strap to snap on via magnets instead of the usual loops and hooks, according to images shared by leaker Sonny Dixon.

The Apple Watch Series 11 is not rumored to feature any dramatic new changes; instead, we can look out for “minor tweaks,” such as a brighter display, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

The Apple Watch SE 3 is expected to feature a faster chip for improved performance and larger displays, measuring around 1.6-inch and 1.8-inch each, which is similar to the Apple Watch Series 7 to Series 9.

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 will, however, get its first significant overhaul since the original model launched in September 2022. The Ultra 2, which Apple launched in 2023, was a minor upgrade. Gurman claims the third generation will feature satellite connectivity and a slightly bigger display.

The AirPods Pro 3 is rumored to feature a heart rate monitoring sensor and an H3 chip.
