Enhanced Security Measures In Place At Rio Claro East Secondary School

The Ministry of Education said it continues to maintain heightened vigilance following recent threats directed at Rio Claro East Secondary School. The threats leveled against specific teachers and students at the school started in October 2025 and intensified over the Christmas holidays. It stopped after assurances were given by Minister of National Security, Roger Alexander, that arrests were imminent. However, the threats resumed in January.

In a Media Release today (Thursday 5th February, 2026), the Ministry said, “In collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) and the Ministry of Homeland Security, enhanced security measures were immediately implemented. The school has since been assigned additional School Oriented Police (SOP) Officers, and additional Safety Officers have been deployed to support on-site security operations. The Rio Claro Police continue to provide a static presence in the vicinity of the school. All established entry and exit protocols remain in effect.”

The Ministry added, “Communication lines between the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Homeland Security, and law enforcement partners remain unobstructed and fully operational. The Ministry of Education will continue to work closely with law enforcement and school administration to monitor the situation and maintain a safe learning environment. Should additional psychosocial support be required for the student population, the Student Support Services Division (SSSD) remains available to provide counselling and related assistance.”

The Media Release concluded by saying, “The Ministry thanks parents, teachers, and the wider community for their co-operation as we continue to prioritize the protection of our school community.”

More on this as it becomes available.
