Savita Singh Becomes First Woman To Win 2026 International Chutney Soca Monarch In 31 Years
In a historic victory, Savita Singh became the first woman to win the 2026 International Chutney Soca Monarch in its 31-year history, leading a female-dominated top three (3) at the Grand Finals of the competition, held at Skinner Park, San Fernando, last night (Sunday 8th February, 2026).
Singh, who earned a top score of 813 points from the nine (9) judges, was also crowned the Queen of Chutney Soca.
Placing second was Rasika Dindial, with 673 points, who also won the Traditional Chutney Monarch, and in third place was Lady Lava (Keisha Harris), with 662 points. Meanwhile, 2025 Chutney Soca Monarch Machel Montano came in fourth place with 651 points. Montano won in 2025 with “Pepper Vine,” featuring Drupatee Ramgoonai and Lady Lava. Three (3) titles were contested on Sunday night: Chutney Soca Monarch, Queen of Chutney Soca, and Traditional Chutney Monarch (introduced this year). Fourteen (14) contestants competed in the Grand Finals, which was held on a Sunday for the first time, and drew one of the largest crowds recorded at Skinner Park. Organizers reported that all contestants delivered elaborate presentations, with detailed stage set-ups, which caused delays in the programme at times. The International Chutney Soca Monarch is a premier Indo-Caribbean musical competition, often featuring artists from Trinidad and Tobago and the diaspora.
