TTT Limited Denies Cutting Mic of Calypsonian Helon Francis While Performing Anti-Government Song

State broadcaster TTT Limited is strongly denying reports that the microphone of reigning Calypso Monarch Helon Francis was deliberately muted during his Dimanche Gras performance last night (Sunday 15th February, 2026), insisting the audio interruption was the result of a technical failure and not political censorship.

Viewers experienced a sudden loss of sound during Francis’ performance at the National Calypso Monarch Final, which immediately triggered speculation as the calypsonian’s lyrics were critical of the Government. During the broadcast, which was also being carried live on WACK TV, an official reportedly approached one of the programme’s two (2) presenters and said, “We mute Helon’s mic.”

The presenter responded on air that he would not repeat what had just been told to him but emphasized that WACK TV remains “the place where all calypsos are played,” a remark that further intensified speculation and public debate.

Social media quickly erupted, with many questioning whether the interruption was deliberate and politically motivated.

However, in a Media Release this morning (Monday 16th February, 2026), TTT Limited said it “sincerely apologizes to viewers for the audio interruption that occurred during Helon Francis' performance at the National Calypso Monarch Final on Sunday night at the Dimanche Gras. We understand how important this moment was for the artiste and for the many viewers at home, and we regret that the broadcast was disrupted.”

TTT added, “At no time did TTT purposefully cut the audio, but rather experienced a Dante System Failure. Engineers and Audio Technicians successfully restored the signal at approximately 10:45 PM, ensuring the remainder of the Dimanche Gras presentation continued without further incident. Unfortunately, because the issue occurred at the audio source, there was no clean recording available, which meant we were unable to provide an immediate playback of the performance, as has been done during such events.”

Incident Summary

At approximately 10:30 PM, TTT said “technical monitors observed a total loss of audio signal into the primary mixing console. While the console remained fully powered, the lack of incoming signal from the stage boxes resulted in a temporary loss of program output for the broadcast.”

Technical Observations And Actions Taken

Upon immediate inspection of the stage boxes, TTT said its “engineers and audio technicians identified a connectivity fault. Despite the hardware being configured in a parallel setup for redundancy, both units lost connectivity simultaneously, suggesting a localized network or synchronization error rather than a physical cable failure.”

To resolve the issue, TTT notes that the following steps were taken:

  • Initial Troubleshooting: All bus cables and power statuses were verified as operational.
  • Signal Restoration: Following a sequence of system restarts, the audio signal was successfully re-established.
  • Ongoing Stability: After a brief second interruption, a final console reset was performed, after which the signal remained stable and secure for the duration of the event.

Preliminary Assessment

“Technical diagnostics suggest the disruption was likely caused by a Dante network routing error or a specific connectivity fault between the audio board and the digital stage boxes,” TTT said. “Because the independent lines failed at the exact same moment, the engineering team has ruled out individual cable damage.”

Commitment To Broadcast Excellence

According to the State broadcaster, “TTT Limited's priority is providing our audience with a seamless, high-quality broadcast of the Carnival Season. While technical challenges can occur in complex digital environments, our team's rapid response allowed us to identify the fault and restore the program quickly. We are conducting a full diagnostic review to prevent a recurrence.”

The Media Release concluded by saying, “TTT Limited thanks its viewers and partners for their continued support during this year's celebrations.”

More on this as it becomes available.
