Health Ministry Launches Learning Management System (LMS) For Public Healthcare Workers

The Ministry of Health has launched a new Learning Management System (LMS) aimed at strengthening professional development and knowledge-sharing across Trinidad and Tobago's public health sector.

The platform, unveiled on Friday (13th March, 2026) at the Ministry's Corporate Headquarters, was developed with support from the United States Government through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

In a Media Release on Saturday (14th March, 2026), the Ministry said, “The LMS will serve as a centralized digital hub for training, providing healthcare workers across the Ministry of Health and the Regional Health Authorities with structured and accessible opportunities for professional development.”

According to the Ministry, “One of the first programmes introduced on the platform focuses on the District Health Information Software 2 [DHIS2], a widely used global health information system that enables realtime data capture at the point of care. Strengthening the use of DHIS2 is expected to improve the collection, analysis and use of health data, particularly in monitoring and responding to HIV/AIDS. The initiative will support more timely decision-making, improved programme monitoring and more efficient allocation of healthcare resources.”

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Charlie Franta, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy, highlighted the significance of the partnership between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago. Franta said, “Today's event is a powerful testament to the enduring and robust bilateral partnership between the United States and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago that makes the people of our two great nations safer and healthier.”

The Honourable, Dr. Lackram Bodoe, Minister of Health, said the platform represents an important step in strengthening the country's public health infrastructure.

“Through the valued support of the United States Government, particularly the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and PEPFAR, Trinidad and Tobago continues to advance its health systems strengthening agenda in a manner that is both meaningful and measurable,” he said. “This significant investment will bolster disease surveillance, prevention programmes, laboratory systems and overall public health preparedness and response.”

Minister Bodoe also expressed appreciation to the U.S. Government, including the U.S. Embassy, the CDC and PEPFAR, for their continued technical support and partnership in strengthening Trinidad and Tobago's health information systems.

During the event, healthcare workers who completed online training through the platform were recognized. The United States Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago also donated twenty-eight (28) tablets to the Ministry of Health. The devices will be used to support data collection for individuals accessing HIV testing services, strengthening programme monitoring and surveillance efforts.
