46-Year-Old Man Dies After Crashing Into Concrete Barrier In Freeport

A man is dead following a road traffic accident in Freeport on Thursday afternoon (16th April, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 46-year-old Francois Baptiste of Ramlal Street, Chickland Road, Freeport.

According to reports, Baptiste was killed when his vehicle collided with a concrete barrier along Mission Road, Freeport, around 1:00 PM.

Speaking with Guardian Media at the family’s home, Baptiste’s mother, 78-year-old Jassodra Girley Tookhai, said she was shocked to learn of his death. She last saw her son earlier that morning and he appeared to be in good spirits. Tookhai said Baptiste had changed the battery in his blue Nissan Wingroad on Wednesday (15th April, 2026) and later left home to go out.

She added that Baptiste had fallen ill in 2012, suffering from diabetes and other ailments, and had been on disability since then. She said prior to his illness, he was an active and well-known community advocate.

Councillor for the area, Anil Balliram, described Baptiste as a helpful individual with a strong sense of community involvement.

Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
