Education Ministry: Successful Start To Term III, 2025/2026 Academic Year

The Ministry of Education said it is pleased to report a successful start to Term III of the 2025/2026 Academic Year, with schools across the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), Primary, and Secondary levels re-opening on schedule today (Monday 13th April, 2026). Teaching and learning activities resumed nationwide without major disruption.

In a Media Release, the Ministry said it also utilized the Easter vacation period to advance critical repair works. This includes a total of seventy-nine (79) minor repairs to facilitate CSEC and CAPE examinations, and sixteen (16) emergency repairs at both Primary and Secondary schools.

The Ministry said it is “further pleased to confirm the resumption of operations by the National Schools Dietary Services Limited (NSDSL).” On the first day of service, the Ministry notes that approximately 62,091 breakfasts and 75,605 lunches were delivered to students nationwide, supported by sixty-seven (67) fully-operational kitchens across the country.

According to the Ministry, “As students who sat the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) 2026 begins their transition to the Secondary level, the Ministry recognizes this as a critical stage in their development. While this period brings both opportunities and challenges, the right support can help students adjust with confidence. To assist this process, the Ministry continues to implement the Students Transitioning Effectively from Primary to Secondary (S.T.E.P.S) Programme, which is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for a successful transition. The programme also supports parents, families, and school staff, ensuring a holistic and positive experience for students entering Secondary school. The Ministry added, “Form 5 and Form 6 students are reminded to review their CSEC and CAPE examination schedules for the term. Private candidates can access all relevant examination details on the Ministry's website at exams.moe.gov.tt. Additionally, to support improved student performance, particularly in Mathematics, the Ministry has expanded its AI-powered academic support initiative. Building on the success of the SEA Mathematics Solutions Platform, Form 5 students now have access to 24/7 digital tutoring for Mathematics. The platform offers guided revision practice and instant feedback to strengthen exam readiness. Students and parents can access the platform at: https://studysupportai.com/login.”

Dr. the Honourable Michael Dowlath, Minister of Education, commended the successful start to the term, noting: “Education is a shared national responsibility for safe and secure schools, and this smooth re-opening demonstrates what is possible when all stakeholders work together to keep our children learning, safe, and supported. As we push forward in this new term, I urge all students to take full advantage of the resources available to them. Consistent effort, guided support, and effective use of these tools can make a meaningful difference in examination outcomes.”

The Ministry is further assuring the public that “school supervision, student support services, and district-level monitoring remain fully active.”

The Media Release concluded by saying, “The Ministry of Education extends sincere thanks to all stakeholders and looks forward to continued collaboration in ensuring a productive and successful academic term for all students.”

A man is dead and a woman wounded following a shooting incident in Valencia early Monday morning (20th April, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Shaun Charles of Emon Lane, Valencia, while the wounded woman, his common-law wife, is 40-year-old Clarisia James. BODY of Missing 36-Year-Old Man Found In Las Lomas Forest

UPDATE (18/04/26): A post-mortem examination conducted at the Forensic Science Centre on Friday (17th April, 2026) revealed that Frederick Aaron Stevenson died from blunt force trauma to the head, with investigators alleging he was killed with a sledgehammer before his body was dumped in a forested area off Esmeralda Road, Las Lomas. Investigators believe Stevenson was lured to the home of James Dwaraka under the pretext of carrying out repairs on an air conditioning unit, where it is alleged he was attacked and fatally struck with a sledgehammer on the same day he was reported missing, Saturday 11th April, 2026. Dwaraka, who allegedly disappeared following the incident, is now wanted by Police. UPDATE (24/04/26): The Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago announced this morning (Friday 24th April, 2026) that the relocation of domestic operations, scheduled to begin from today, has been postponed until further notice. According to the Authority, “The planned redirection of domestic passengers through international checkpoints will not take effect at this time. We appreciate the continued co-operation of our stakeholders and the public as preparations continue.” All domestic passengers will therefore continue to be processed through the Domestic Departures area on the ground floor of the Piarco International Airport, with standard check-in and security procedures remaining in place. A woman was found dead at her apartment in Cunupia on Friday evening (17th April, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Anna Lalla, a self-employed hairdresser.
