Subaru Stolen At Gunpoint By 5 Men In Princes Town — 2 Venezuelan Bandits Held, 2 Firearms Seized
UPDATE: The two (2) captured bandits have been identified as 22-year-old Alexander Vegas and 24-year-old Jose Larhos, both Venezuelan nationals.
Quick action by Officers of the Southern Division (SD) Emergency Response Patrol (ERP) last night (Wednesday 1st April, 2026), resulted in the arrest of two (2) male suspects, shortly after a report of robbery with violence in the Princes Town district.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), reports indicate that a male victim, said to be an off-duty Fire Officer, was plying his white Subaru for hire, around 8:35 PM, when he picked up five (5) men posing as passengers along the Naparima Mayaro Road.
It is alleged that the men asked to be taken to Borde Narve and upon reaching Inverness Road, one of them pulled out a gun and announced a robbery.
The driver was allegedly robbed of a cellular phone, a quantity of cash and his vehicle.
A report was made to the Police and Officers of the SD ERP intercepted the vehicle in an off-road area, in the vicinity of a golf course and the Usine Ste. Madeleine pond, following a high-speed chase.
One of the gunmen allegedly pointed a firearm and fired a shot in the direction of the Officers, who, in keeping with the Use of Force policy, returned fire in the direction of the suspects. No one was injured during the exchange.
After the vehicle eventually came to a stop, all five (5) occupants fled in different directions. Officers pursued on foot and successfully arrested two (2) male Venezuelan nationals, ages twenty-two (22) and twenty-four (24), while the other three (3) suspects escaped.
Two (2) pistols were seized from the scene.
The Southern Division Task Force, with the assistance of the Air Support Unit and other units of the Division, conducted extensive searches for the men, but without success.
Investigations are ongoing.
More on this as it becomes available.
