WASA Confirms Progress On Electrical Repair Works At El Socorro Booster Station
The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) provided an update today (Wednesday 15th April, 2026) on repair works following the electrical fault affecting the El Socorro Booster Station's starter mechanism.
In a Media Release, WASA said, “As previously communicated, repairs to the electrical starter are progressing methodically. The Authority wishes to confirm that while the process has required additional time to ensure a thorough and safe resolution, our technical teams remain fully in control of the operation.”
WASA notes that repairs are ongoing, and the second booster unit is now anticipated to be fully restored and returned to operation by 6:00 PM on Thursday evening (16th April, 2026).
Once restarted, the El Socorro Booster Station will resume 100% production capacity, and normal pipe-borne water supply will be progressively restored across all affected areas, including Port-of-Spain, Barataria, Laventille, Morvant, Woodbrook, St. James, Belmont, Cascade, St. Ann’s, and neighbouring communities.
According to WASA, the El Socorro High-Lift Station continues to function as intended, having been successfully returned to operation at 6:30 PM on Saturday 11th April, 2026. In the interim, the El Socorro Booster Station remains operational at 50% capacity, with one (1) fully functional unit maintaining supply to affected areas.
For customers in immediate need, WASA said its truck-borne service is available. Requests can be made by calling the Customer Contact Centre, toll-free at 800-4420 to 800-4426.
The Media Release concluded by saying, “We thank citizens for their continued resilience and understanding, and we look forward to restoring full service by Thursday evening.”
