Today’s Weather: Sunny, Partly Cloudy, Isolated Showers — Mild Saharan Dust; 33°C Max

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), today (Tuesday 9th June, 2026) will be generally sunny, despite a few partly cloudy interruptions with isolated showers. Tonight is expected to be fair with some showery intervals, mainly after Midnight. The Met Office notes that a mild concentration of Saharan dust is present in the atmosphere. Sensitive persons are advised to take the necessary precautions. The forecast maximum temperature today will be 33°C at Piarco in Trinidad and 32°C at Crown Point in Tobago.  Seas are moderate with waves 1.5m to 2m in open waters and below 1m in sheltered areas.  Please continue to pay attention to the latest forecasts, alerts, and information issued by the TTMS.

T&TEC: NO Electricity Today In Parts of Diego Martin, Cunupia, Princes Town

The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is advising customers that planned maintenance work will affect several areas of Diego Martin, Cunupia and Princes Town today (Tuesday 9th June, 2026). This may result in loss of electricity between the hours of works.  According to T&TEC, the affected areas in Diego Martin, Cunupia and Princes Town are as follows:  DIEGO MARTIN (9:00 AM to 4:00 PM) Diego Martin Main Road between Victoria Gardens and Golda Meir Drive. Financial Intelligence Unit Issues Urgent Advisory — Fraudulent Identification Cards In Circulation

The Ministry of Finance said it has been brought to the attention of the Authority that person(s) bearing fraudulent identification card(s), depicting the logos of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago (CBTT), the Financial Intelligence Unit of Trinidad and Tobago (FIUTT) of the Ministry of Finance, and the Financial Investigations Branch (FIB) of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, are presenting themselves to the public as official representative(s) of these entities. In a Media Release today (Monday 8th June, 2026), the Ministry said the FIUTT “hereby issues an urgent advisory to the public regarding these fraudulent identification card(s) currently in circulation. BODY of 26-Year-Old Female Ministry Employee Found Inside Her El Socorro Home

The body of a woman was found inside her home in El Socorro on Friday evening (5th June, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Aquilah Rebekah Henry of Oudan Road, El Socorro. She was an employee of the Ministry of National Security, attached to the Police Administration Building as a Clerk II. According to reports, Police and Emergency Health Services responded to a call for assistance at Henry’s residence, shortly after 6:30 PM. Upon arrival, they discovered her unresponsive inside a room of the home, in an apparent suicide. Henry’s father told Officers that he had last seen his daughter earlier that morning. Concerned after not hearing from her throughout the day, he later went to check on her and made the tragic discovery. Medical personnel and a District Medical Officer (DMO) were summoned to the scene, where Henry was officially pronounced dead. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), we can expect sunny, hazy and breezy conditions today (Monday 8th June, 2026), despite a few cloudy patches with showers at times. There is also a low (30%) chance of an isolated afternoon heavy shower or thunderstorm. Tonight will be fair but hazy, apart from a few brief showers.  Gusty winds and street flooding may occur near heavy showers or thunderstorms.  The Met Office notes that a moderate concentration of Saharan dust is present in the atmosphere. Persons who are sensitive to this change in air quality are advised to take the necessary precautions. Palo Seco Man In Custody Following Discovery of Missing 12-Year-Old Girl In Erin

A 26-year-old man is currently in Police custody as investigators continue enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death of 12-year-old Mercedez Layne of Los Iros, Erin , whose body was discovered earlier today (Sunday 7th June, 2026), hours after she was reported missing. In a Media Release this evening, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said Mercedez was reported missing at approximately 4:00 PM on Saturday (6th June, 2026) by her grandfather, of Lorensotte North Trace, Rancho Quemado. According to the report, around 11:30 AM on the same date, the grandfather placed his granddaughter, who had spent the previous night at his residence, into a vehicle, intended to transport the child to her home at Los Iros Beach Road, Erin. However, information later received indicated that Mercedez never arrived at her destination. Prime Minister Heads To Parliament On Wednesday To Extend State of Emergency

According to the Office of the Attorney General, at a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) on Friday evening (5th June, 2026), the Prime Minister and members of the Council received and reviewed reports on the States of Emergency implemented between December 2024 and May 2026. In a Media Release a short while ago this afternoon (Sunday 7th June, 2026), the Attorney General’s Office said, “The reports highlighted analyses of datasets related to significant local and international threats to State security. The reports revealed that all three (3) SOEs were associated with meaningful disruptions in all categories of datasets reviewed and analyzed.” The Office added, “After examining the reports and advice from members of the NSC, the Prime Minister has decided that the Government will go to Parliament to request an extension of the State of Emergency for a further three (3) months. BODY of Missing 12-Year-Old Girl Found In Forested Area In Erin — Police Investigating

UPDATE 8:  Police have confirmed that the 26-year-old man in custody is to be charged with murder following investigations surrounding the death of 12-year-old Mercedes Layne. The suspect has been publicly identified as Richard Renales of Dickie Trace, Beach Road, Palo Seco. Renales is expected to appear before a High Court Master on Thursday (11th June, 2026). The charge is expected to be formally laid by Woman Corporal Dyer-Baptiste of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region III. UPDATE 7:  New surveillance video has emerged, recorded on Saturday (6th June, 2026), which shows the suspect’s station wagon entering Los Iros Road, where he was supposed to drop off Mercedes, before coming to a stop near a supermarket.
