T&TEC: NO Electricity Today In Parts of Brasso Seco And Brickfield/Brothers Road

The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is advising customers that planned maintenance work will affect several areas of Brasso Seco and Brickfield/Brothers Road today (Friday 28th February, 2025). This may result in loss of electricity between the hours of works.  According to T&TEC, the affected areas in Brasso Seco and Brickfield/Brothers Road are as follows:  BRASSO SECO (8:30 AM to 4:00 PM)  From LP #11 Gomez Trace and all associated side streets. Galil Rifle Marked With ‘De Venezuela’ Seized In Couva

An intelligence-led operation conducted by the Central Division Gang Unit between 9:00 AM and 11:55 AM on Wednesday (26th February, 2025), resulted in the seizure of a firearm and ammunition. According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), b ased on information received, Officers proceeded to an empty lot on the Eastern side of Binda Street, Orange Valley, Couva. During the search, a white feedbag was discovered. Upon further inspection, Officers found a black Galil rifle marked with “De Venezuela” and ten (10) rounds of 7.62 ammunition. The items were seized and taken to the Police Station for further investigation. The operation was co-ordinated by Senior Superintendent Carty, with support from Officers of the Central Division Gang Unit. More on this as it becomes available. 

Prime Minister Keith Rowley Travels To California For ‘Private Trip’

The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has announced that Prime Minister Keith Rowley will travel to California, USA, for a private trip today (Thursday 27th February, 2025). Mrs. Sharon Rowley will accompany the Prime Minister. The announcement comes a day after P.M. Rowley revealed the date he will be retiring as Prime Minister of the country.  Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Stuart Young SC, who is set to take over the reigns as P.M. soon, will act as Prime Minister in the interim.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), we can expect fair to partly cloudy, hazy and breezy conditions today (Thursday 27th January, 2025), with the chance of isolated, brisk showers, becoming mainly fair tonight. The Met Office notes that there is a moderate concentration of Saharan dust in the atmosphere. Persons sensitive to this change in air quality are advised to take the necessary precautions.  The forecast maximum temperature today will be 32°C at Piarco in Trinidad and 31°C at Crown Point in Tobago.  Seas are moderate with waves up to 2m in open waters and near 1m in sheltered areas.  Please continue to pay attention to the latest forecasts, alerts, and information issued by the TTMS.

Cannabis Trees Seized In South-Western Division — FIVE (5) Arrested

Police have arrested five (5) suspects and seized a quantity of cannabis trees and seedlings during anti-crime exercises in the South-Western Division on Sunday (23rd February, 2025). According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), d uring the operation, Officers seized 107 seedlings and seventeen (17) mature cannabis trees at a residence on Beach Road, Palo Seco. This led to the arrest of three (3) suspects, ages between twenty-four (24) and forty-three (43). Additionally, two (2) men, ages thirty (30) and fifty (50), were also arrested as persons of interest.  The operation was co-ordinated by Senior Superintendent Thompson, Superintendent Cumberbatch, Assistant Superintendents Forbes, Corrie, and Ramdass, along with Inspectors Prescott and Morales. 21-Year-Old Employee At Subway, Montrose, Shot Dead Near Home In Tabaquite

A man is dead following a shooting incident in Tabaquite early Sunday morning (16th February, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Matthew Chancellor of Alleyne Street, Tabaquite. He was said to be an employee at Subway in Montrose, Chaguanas. According to reports, Chancellor was shot and killed by a man armed with a shotgun at Cito Lane, Tabaquite, while returning to his home with other persons. The group was liming at a bar in the area hours prior to the fatal shooting. After Chancellor was killed, the suspects allegedly went on a crime spree in the Tabaquite area — robbing someone on the pavement near a Church and robbing people on the bandstand, before stealing a resident’s white Nissan Tiida (PDC 1286) at gunpoint. The man also stopped by a shop, reversed, jumped a resident’s gate, kicked down the door, and stole a quantity of jewellery. NINE (9) Arrested For Various Offences In Southern And South-Western Divisions

Nine (9) persons were arrested for various offences by Officers of the Southern and South-Western Divisions on Friday (14th February, 2025). According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), at approximately 6:07 AM on Friday, in the Southern Division, a 33-year-old man from Orchid Gardens, Pleasantville, was arrested for possession of 18.6 grammes of cocaine following a search of his home by Officers of the Southern Division Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Operations Unit. Additionally, during an operation conducted between 4:00 AM and 10:00 AM in the Southern Division, Officers of the Southern Division Task Force arrested a 42-year-old man from Indian Walk for possession of four (4) rounds of 16-gauge cartridges and 865 grammes of cannabis. WASA Advises Customers of Planned Shutdown At Point Fortin Desalination Plant

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is informing customers that Seven Seas Water (SSW), owner/operator of the Point Fortin Desalination Plant, has advised of the  planned shutdown of the facility for maintenance work, from 5:30 AM on Tuesday (18th February, 2025) to 1:30 AM on Wednesday (19th February, 2025). During this period, customers in the following areas of Point Fortin and La Brea will be affected: Point Fortin proper, parts of Techier, Vance River, Parrylands, Cochrane, Mahaica, Lot 10, Cochrane, Savannah, Harriman Park, Clifton Hill, Reservoir Hill, Merrimac, Vessigny, TGU, La Brea (up to the Pitch Lake). ​ Customers are advised that following the completion of these works, it may take up to twenty-four (24) hours for the supply to normalize to some affected areas. 29-Year-Old Man Stabbed To Death Along Ariapita Avenue, Woodbrook — Police Investigating

A man is dead following a stabbing incident along Ariapita Avenue in Woodbrook early this morning (Saturday 15th February, 2025). The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old David Stanley Gregoir. According to reports, Gregoir was in a black MG SUV, which was parked on Alberto Street, near Frankie’s Bar, when he got into an argument with a group of people known to him, around 2:10 AM. One of the men then stabbed him. Gregoir exited the SUV and tried to escape. However, the attacker chased him and continued the assault before running away from the scene. Police on patrol took Gregoir to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (POSGH), where he later succumbed to his injuries. The attacker has not yet been arrested. Investigations are continuing. Drone Restrictions In Effect For Panorama And Carnival Activities 2025

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is advising that the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority (TTCAA) has designated specific  NO FLY ZONES, as per Reg. 19 of the TTCAA Regulations, for general drone operators, including Port-of-Spain, Chaguaramas, Caroni, Point-a-Pierre, Point Lisas, Point Fortin And Galeota. Also, drones are NOT TO BE OPERATED: Within 5 Km of any manned aircraft operation, including the boundary of any Airport; Within 2 Km of any helipad; At an altitude of over 400 feet, over any crowded area or over any public event. Traffic Management Plan For Southbound Lanes of Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway — Chaguanas To Chase Village

The Ministry of Works and Transport is advising the public of the  partial opening of the Southbound lanes along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, in the vicinity of the Brentwood Acceleration Lane to the Chase Village Overpass.  This partial opening will take place from  Monday 17th February, 2025. Considering the above: A 100m transition zone (red dashed outline as seen in Image 1 below) will be demarcated using traffic control devices (orange line as seen in Image 1), to facilitate the flow of traffic from two (2) lanes into three (3) lanes in the vicinity of the Brentwood Acceleration Lane. Three (3) lanes will be maintained for approximately 2 Km until the approach to the Chase Village Overpass. The Ministry of Works and Transport is advising the general public that  authorization has been granted to light motor vehicles to utilize the Priority Bus Route (PBR), Eastbound Lane (Port-of-Spain to Arima) ONLY, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM today (Friday 14th February, 2025). According to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), the track of passing Winter frontal systems continues to be generally more Northerly at this time. This has been allowing the mid sub-tropical Atlantic high cells to establish a dominant influence in the weather pattern over the Tropical North Atlantic. The configuration continues to be a long and generally straight fetch across the Tropical North Atlantic, with very little perturbation but varying levels of surface convergence and patches of moisture advection. The energy out of the high pressure cells will continue to generate steady, moderate to strong, near-surface to mid-level winds during this outlook period. Restored: TikTok Once Again Available For Download In U.S. App Stores

Both Apple and Google have restored TikTok, the wildly popular social media platform, to their respective U.S. app stores as of Thursday evening (13th February, 2025). This follows promises by President Donald Trump to save the app and an executive action delaying the enactment of a TikTok ban. TikTok’s uncertain future stems from a law signed last April by then-President Joe Biden, which gave China’s ByteDance 270 days to sell the app to an owner from the United States or one of its allies or face a ban, based on U.S. national security concerns. The day before the blackout, the  Supreme Court upheld the ban . Rowley may  announce his retirement as Political Leader of the PNM, as Prime Minister of the country, and the long-awaited date for the 2025 General Elections. DOUBLE Murder Rocks Arima — 2 Men Shot Dead, Woman Wounded; Police Investigating

Two (2) men are dead and a woman wounded following a shooting incident at Sherwood Park (an area known as ‘The Congo’) in Arima on Thursday afternoon (13th February, 2025). The deceased have been identified as Akil Pierre and Mark Seignoret. These are the 2 men who were shot dead at Sherwood Park (The Congo) in Arima on Thursday. Police and Emergency Health Services were notified and the wounded victims were conveyed to the Arima District Hospital, where Pierre and Seignoret were declared dead.   Police have not yet established a motive for this incident.
