Shallow Grave: Ian Alleyne Believes He Found BODY of Shashi Anand Rampersad

UPDATE (11/02/25): Rampersad's relatives have reportedly positively identified his body at the Forensic Sciences Centre on Monday (10th February, 2025). An autopsy is expected to be conducted later this week to determine the exact cause of death.

The body of a man was discovered buried in a shallow grave in St. James on Saturday afternoon (8th February, 2025) by Crime Watch host, Ian Alleyne. While unconfirmed, based on information received by Alleyne, he believes the body is that of 36-year-old kidnapped businessman, Shashi Anand Rampersad.

Rampersad was abducted at Pierre Trace in Enterprise, Chaguanas, on 21st November, 2024, where he went to deliver a load of gravel.A ransom of $110,000 was allegedly paid by relatives to his kidnappers, after $500,000 was demanded.

This is the second time the remains of Rampersad is believed to have been found in St. James. On 28th January, 2025, Police ventured to a forested area off Riverville Trace to search for Rampersad‘s remains. They initially believed the body found there was that of Rampersad, but evidence later suggested it was that of another kidnapped victim, Winston Rostant of Point Fortin.

Western Division Officers were on patrol in St. James, around 2:30 PM on Saturday afternoon (8th February, 2025), when they received a report from the St. James Police Station of a body discovered in a forested area off Dibe Road, St. James. Upon arrival at the location, they met Alleyne and his personnel.

Alleyne told the Officers he received information of a body being dumped in the forest and that he had further information that the body may be that of kidnapped victim Shashi Anand Rampersad.

The Officers, along with PCs Rogers, Arthur, and Boucage, under the supervision of Cpl. Sahadath of the Western Division Task Force, were led uphill by Alleyne, approximately 500 feet from the roadway, into a forested area. When the Officers arrived near a bamboo patch, Alleyne pointed to an area where the soil was disturbed, which appeared to be a makeshift grave where two (2) human feet were seen sticking out of the dirt.

The body was found lying in a crouched position on its back. The hands were bound with a black tie strap and the body was clad in a blue short pants.

Police said the grave was about two (2) feet wide, three (3) feet long and three (3) feet deep.

Alleyne, Police said, informed them that while the area was being dug by his personnel, he spotted the legs on a decomposing body, about a foot down, and the digging was immediately halted.

The area was cordoned off, and the relevant agencies were contacted, which included the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the District Medical Officer, and undertakers.

The body was removed by Armstrong’s Funeral Home, pending identification and an autopsy.

Investigations are continuing.

More on this as it becomes available.
