Former Police Officer Russell Bedasse Found Hanging In Cedros, Months After Mother Found Hanging

The body of a man was found hanging at his home in Coromandel Village, Cedros, earlier today (Tuesday 9th December, 2025). The deceased has been identified as Russell Bedasse, a former Police Officer. Only a few months ago, in September, his mother, 57-year-old Shelawaihtie “Meera” Bedasse, was found hanging from a tree near Clifton Hill Beach, Point Fortin, after she was reported missing a day earlier. Russell, who believed his mother was murdered, is said to have suffered tremendous grief, leading to his death on Tuesday.

Following the discovery of his mother’s body, Russell publicly criticized the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) in a viral video, expressing dissatisfaction with how the investigation into his mother’s death was handled. He believed critical aspects of the case were not properly pursued and this belief weighed heavily on him.

However, in response, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) – Operations, Suzette Martin, issued a statement a few days later, saying in part, The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is aware of videos currently circulating on social media in which a serving Officer has made public statements that have attracted significant public attention. We wish to make it clear that the views and allegations expressed in these videos are personal in nature and do not represent the policies, principles, or operational positions of the TTPS.”

Russell subsequently left his job as a Police Officer and distanced himself from the service, while continuing to mourn his mother.

Police were called to his home in Coromandel Village on Tuesday, where Russell was found hanging.

Both tragic incidents have left residents reeling and searching for answers.
