DCP Martin RESPONDS To Police Officer Russell Bedasse’s Statements In Viral Video
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) – Operations, Suzette Martin, has issued a statement following a viral video in which Police Officer Russell Bedasse announced his resignation and made certain allegations against the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).
In the viral video, Bedasse, of Coromandel Village, Cedros, announced he quit the TTPS, having dropped off his badge at the Cedros Police Station on Friday (26th September, 2025), after what he described as a lack of response from colleagues regarding the disappearance of his mother, Sheilawathie Lorna Bedasse, who was reported missing on Tuesday 23rd September. 2025.
Tragically, she was found a day later, hanging from a tree near the beach at Clifton Hill, Point Fortin, on Republic Day (Wednesday 24th September, 2025).
In her statement today (Monday 29th September, 2025), DCP Martin said, “The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is aware of videos currently circulating on social media in which a serving Officer has made public statements that have attracted significant public attention. We wish to make it clear that the views and allegations expressed in these videos are personal in nature and do not represent the policies, principles, or operational positions of the TTPS. The Officer in question is known to be experiencing challenges compounded by profound personal grief, following the recent passing of his mother. The organization has been actively providing welfare assistance and psychological support to him and his family during this extremely difficult period.”
DCP Martin added, “Importantly, we can confirm that an official Police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his mother’s death is currently underway. This investigation is being conducted with the utmost sensitivity, thoroughness, and impartiality, and the TTPS is committed to ensuring that all relevant facts are established and justice is served. While we remain compassionate toward the Officer’s personal struggles, the unauthorized release of misleading information or speculative commentary into the public domain has the potential to erode public confidence and interfere with investigative processes. As such, this matter will continue to be addressed through appropriate internal and legal channels in keeping with TTPS regulations and due process.”
The statement concluded by saying, “The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service remains dedicated to professionalism, transparency, and the safety and security of all citizens. We thank the public for its patience, support, and understanding as we handle this sensitive matter with the seriousness it deserves.”
