28-Year-Old Municipal Police Officer Charged For Killing of Acting Corporal Anusha Eversley
A Municipal Police Officer has been charged with the murder of Acting Corporal Anusha Eversley, as well as other firearms-related charges, following the deadly incident which took place at the San Fernando Municipal Police Station early Sunday morning (19th April, 2026). The Officer has been identified as 28-year-old PC Jivan Cooper of La Sophie Trace, Claxton Bay. He is also facing additional charges, including robbery with violence, trafficking of firearms and possession of ammunition, following legal advice received from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Roger Gaspard, SC, on Tuesday (21st April, 2026).
WPC Eversley, 36, was discovered deceased shortly after 4:40 AM on Sunday, inside the San Fernando Municipal Police Station, located at King’s Wharf, Lady Hailes Avenue. Officers returning to the charge room reportedly noticed blood leading from her living quarters. A search led them to her body lying motionless on a mattress.
While early reports suggested she had been shot in the neck, Commissioner of Police, Allister Guevarro, said an autopsy has confirmed that Eversley died from strangulation, compounded by blunt force and sharp force injuries.
A significant cache of firearms and ammunition was also stolen the station’s strong room. Authorities now believe more than 100 firearms and approximately 4,000 rounds of ammunition were taken. A total of forty-three (43) firearms have been recovered so far, along with close to 1,000 rounds of ammunition.
Ten (10) suspects, aged between sixteen (16) and thirty-three (33), remain in custody as Police continue to pursue leads.
Describing the incident as a betrayal of public trust, Commissioner Guevarro said the swift and thorough probe reflects the high standard expected of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), adding that no one is above the law. He also warned that Officers involved in criminal activity will be held accountable.
The investigation was led by Senior Officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region III, under the supervision of top command.
Investigations are continuing.
More on this as it becomes available.
