High Wind Alert In Effect Until Sunday Afternoon

UPDATE (17/05/26): The Met Office has extended its High Wind Alert (Yellow Level) until 12:00 AM on Tuesday (19th May, 2026). Breezy to windy conditions are expected to continue intermittently over the period with accompanying gusts in excess of 55 Km/h. Conditions will likely be more pronounced in the vicinity of showers, along Eastern areas and along elevated terrain.

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued a High Wind Alert (Yellow Level) for a total of fifty-two (52) hours. The Alert began at 10:00 AM this morning (Friday 15th May, 2026) and will remain in effect until 2:00 PM on Sunday (17th May, 2026) for Trinidad and Tobago and surrounding waters.

According to the Met Office, current breezy to windy conditions are expected to intensify over the next twenty-four (24) to thirty-six (36) hours, with a high (70%) potential for gusts exceeding 55 Km/h, especially in the vicinity of showers. These conditions are expected to be more pronounced along Eastern areas and along elevated terrain. These gusts may be brief but strong enough to displace unsecured roofs, loose outdoor items and can break tree branches. Sea conditions are also expected to become agitated and may disrupt marine activities.

Instructions

  • Secure any loose outdoor objects and livestock.
  • Marine interests should exercise caution during this period and small craft should restrict activity.
  • Follow the instructions of lifeguards.
  • Monitor official news sources and weather updates from www.metoffice.gov.tt.

Please continue to pay attention to the latest forecasts, alerts, and information issued by the TTMS.
