Tropical Wave Nears T&T — Met Office Issues Adverse Weather Alert For 17 Hours On Saturday

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued an Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) for seventeen (17) hours on Saturday (15th August, 2026). The Alert begins at 12:00 AM Midnight and will remain in effect until 5:00 PM for Trinidad and Tobago and surrounding waters.

According to the Met Office, the passage of a Tropical Wave is expected to increase the potential for isolated heavy showers and/or thunderstorms from Midnight tonight. While widespread heavy rainfall is not expected, isolated areas could experience periods of intense rainfall and strong wind gusts.

Impacts

  • Gusty winds near 50 Km/hr can occur in the vicinity of heavy showers/thunderstorms, which may displace loose outdoor items, topple trees and lead to choppy seas.
  • Heavy downpours can result in street/flash flooding as well as localized ponding.

  • Take necessary precautions to mitigate potential impacts.
  • Do not venture into flood waters.
