San Francique Carpenter In Court For Fraud; Granted $40K Bail
A San Francique carpenter was granted own-bail in the sum of $40,000, after he appeared before a Master of the High Court on Thursday (25th September, 2025), charged with fraud.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), Stephen Mohammed was charged with fraudulent conversion in the sum of $2,500, when he appeared before Master Kateisha Ambrose Persadsingh, on Thursday.
He was not called upon to plead and granted bail.
The matter was adjourned to 23rd October, 2025, and transferred to the Siparia Magistrates’ Court.
Reports indicate that in 2022, a victim made a down-payment to a carpenter for the construction and delivery of a wardrobe within a three (3) to four (4) week period.
To date, the victim never received the wardrobe and efforts to obtain a refund of the payment proved futile.
A report was made to the Police and investigations resulted in an exercise being conducted in the South Western Division on Tuesday (23rd September, 2025), by Officers of the Fraud Squad, Port-of-Spain and South Offices.
A male suspect was arrested in the exercise, which was supervised by Insp. Thomas and W/Sgt. Bailey and included Cpl. (Ag.) Vickles, Saunders, Du Bois and WPC Jointe.
Mohammed was charged with the offence by W/Sgt. Bailey of the Fraud Squad.
Investigations were spearheaded by DCP Suzette Martin, ACP ‘White Collar Crime,’ Denis Knutt and supervised by Snr. Supt. Michael Jackman and Supt. Arnold Lutchman.
The TTPS is advising members of the public to “do their due diligence on service providers and vendors, with whom they have never conducted business before, prior to entering into any financial transactions, especially those involving cash. Keep all receipts and communications relating to the transaction secure for future use and reference if needed.”
