Guyana: Terror Suspect Captured After Deadly Gas Station Explosion In Georgetown
UPDATE (29/10/25): Police say Daniel Alexander Ramirez Peodomo came from Venezuela, entering Guyana illegally via boat, around 8:00 AM on the day of the attack, accompanied by an accomplice and carrying explosives. Reports state that Peodomo has confessed to the bombing, while several other individuals are being questioned. Police are working with INTERPOL and regional security partners to determine whether the suspect was linked to a larger network or acted alone.
Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken, praised the “exceptional work” of investigators and intelligence analysts, stating that the operation demonstrates the GPF’s growing counter-terrorism capabilities and its ability to blend modern policing technology with traditional investigative methods. “The Guyana Police Force remains resolute and relentless in its duty to protect the public,” Hicken declared. “Any act of terror or violence will be met with decisive and lawful action.”
The main suspect linked to the deadly explosion on Sunday night (26th October, 2025) at the Mobil Gas Station in Georgetown, Guyana, has been captured by Police. The suspect has been identified as Daniel Alexander Ramirez Peodomo. Investigators are working to determine whether the he acted alone or as part of a wider network.
Acting on intelligence, a team of Officers went to Vergenoegen Sideline Dam, East Bank Essequibo, earlier today (Tuesday 28th October, 2025), where they arrested Peodomo, described by investigators as a Spanish-speaking foreign national. He is currently in Police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF), with support from the Safe City Command Centre and allied intelligence agencies, tracked the suspect using video forensic analysis, digital tracking, and inter-agency co-ordination.
The operation was said to have been executed without incident, and the suspect is being questioned about his role in what authorities have officially classified as an act of terrorism, under Section 309 A (1)(b)(i) of the Criminal Law Offences Act, Chapter 8:01.
The explosion on Sunday at the Mobil Gas Station at Regent and King Streets, Georgetown, claimed the life of a child, 6-year-old Soraya Bourne, and left four (4) others seriously injured — Rishad Lorde, Sedyia McClintoc, Jenica Hooper, and Yvonne Honas. Soraya was killed instantly while two (2) of the victims remain in critical condition at Hospital.
The tragic incident shocked the nation and prompted swift action from the Guyana Police Force and national security agencies.
CCTV footage shows a foreign, Spanish-speaking suspect attempting to place a black bag containing explosives inside a bin near a gas pump. However, the man was stopped by a female employee who was seated nearby. The man then left the station, returned moments later, and placed the bag in another area before quickly leaving the premises.
Seconds later, a powerful explosion ripped through the gas station, killing young Soraya on the spot and injuring the four (4) other victims, as the family's car was reversing in the area where the explosive device was placed.
Investigations are continuing.
More on this as it becomes available.
