Customs And Excise Division Seizes Over $1.4M Marijuana Shipment In Port-of-Spain
The Customs and Excise Division successfully intercepted a shipment of marijuana at a Customs Bonded Area in Port-of-Spain on Tuesday (21st April, 2026).
In a Media Release on Wednesday (22nd April, 2026), the Division said, “During routine operations, Customs Officers conducted examination of cargo which led to the discovery of eighteen (18) packages, containing a green plant-like material concealed within a household appliance. Officers from the Preventive Branch were subsequently contacted and responded to the location, where field testing confirmed the substance to be cannabis. The estimated street value of the seizure is $1,413,302.”
An individual was arrested and formally charged in connection with the seizure. The accused subsequently appeared before a Master of the High Court and was granted bail in the sum of $1.5M with surety and reporting conditions.
According to the Division, “This seizure demonstrates the continued vigilance and proactive efforts, through strengthened enforcement initiatives, by the Customs and Excise Division in safeguarding the borders of Trinidad and Tobago. Through intelligence-driven operations and strategic enforcement measures, Officers remain committed to preventing the importation of illegal narcotics.”
The Media Release concluded by saying, “The Customs and Excise Division continues to reaffirm its commitment to enforcing the laws of Trinidad and Tobago, protecting national revenue, and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.”
