51-Year-Old Man Shot Dead Inside Taxi In Downtown Port-of-Spain; Manhunt On For Suspect
UPDATE (09/07/26): Dillon Irvin, 50, of Annisette Street, East Dry River, Port-of-Spain, has been charged with murder and firearm-related offences, in connection with the fatal shooting last month of Marlon Hamlyn.

A man is dead following a shooting incident in downtown Port-of-Spain on Wednesday afternoon (17th June, 2026). The deceased has been identified as 51-year-old Marlon Hamlyn of Greenvale Park, Arima. He was said to be a juice-maker and father of two (2).
According to reports, Hamlyn was seated in the rear passenger seat of a silver Nissan Sylphy taxi, which was parked at the San Juan taxi stand, near the corner of Charlotte Street and Independence Square, shortly after 2:00 PM, when a man approached the taxi and engaged Hamlyn in a brief conversation, before opening fire on him.
Witnesses reported hearing five (5) loud explosions, sending the other passengers of the taxi scrambling for safety. The gunman then calmly walked away along Independence Square and made his escape.
The taxi driver, alerted by the commotion, discovered Hamlyn suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and immediately drove him to the Besson Street Police Station, where Officers escorted the vehicle to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (POSGH).
Hamlyn was treated for gunshot wounds to the shoulder, abdomen, flank and head but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
A man identified as 50-year-old Dillon Irving of Annisette Street, East Dry River, Port-of-Spain, is believed to be a suspect in the murder. Investigators describe him as a known shooter and are warning the public that he is considered armed and dangerous.
Police are urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of Irving to contact law enforcement immediately and are warning members of the public not to approach him.
Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
