Adverse Weather Alert In Effect For EIGHT (8) Hours Today Due To Active ITCZ

UPDATE: The Met Office has extended this Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) until 2:00 PM on Sunday (19th July, 2026). An approaching Tropical Wave, interacting with the ITCZ, will trigger showers and thunderstorms after Midnight and into Sunday.

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued an Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) for eight (8) hours today (Saturday 18th July, 2026). The Alert began at 9:00 AM and will remain in effect until 5:00 PM for Trinidad, particularly Southern regions of the island.

According to the Met Office, there is a high potential for heavy showers and thunderstorms associated with the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). Significant rainfall accumulations are likely, particularly along Southern areas of Trinidad.

Street flooding, flash flooding and localized ponding are likely to occur. There is an increased risk of landslides and landslips along hillsides. Gusty winds may occur near heavy showers/thunderstorms and may cause a temporary agitation of sea conditions.

ALL marine interests should exercise caution.

  • Motorists and residents in areas prone to flooding or landslides should remain alert and exercise caution.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and changing weather conditions, as you go about your daily activities.
